Just a question. I have the 2.3 and love it. Published specs state 25Hz in max output mode. Is there a way to mod this sub to get down to 22 or 20Hz in Max output mode?
Thanks for any help

It's called the turbo :D

I think in MO mode the extension actually is more like 22Hz (conservatively rated). Because it's really just a 3.2...
Have you tried messing around with an SPL meter and correction tables? I bet you'll be surprised how deep it's reaching.
Edit - or, yeah...just get the turbo :)

Well you could lengthen the ports a bit if you are handy, and if there is room.
The "Turbo" option still loses output in the more common bass frequencies. It would only make a difference when the ports overload, at those very low frequencies, compared to the port plug approach. Before the point the ports are overloading on either, it would be comparable to a single port / plugged port setup if both hit the same tuning point. So at more sane SPL levels there is no real difference.

Turbo would definitely make a noticeable difference in deep bass output before the onset of compression. A good alternative in this case would be the supercharger, although release date is uncertain.

Will the supercharger fit the 2.3?

Thanks all,
I do not have a meter but I moved my equipment around and bit and believe I may be getting a bit better than the posted 25hz based on testing in "Superman Returns" and Tomb Raider Legacy in both modes. The scene where the guy drops the crystal in the water and it sends the low tones rattles my houseIf I am fooling myself, its no bother because it sounds awesome.
I was really just being curious.
I actually (persoannly) like it better in max output mode and have my receiver set to 50Hz. My mains go down to 30Hz so the should have no problem with that setting. In My room, it seems to have more punch (In my room 12x11x10 :) ). This is an awesome sub and I will probably get another one for my living room when I set it up.
On another note, I ordered a pair of JBL L890s to replace my 880s. Nothing wrong with them. Just wanted a bigger speaker for some two channel listening. If anyone wants a sweet deal on a pair of JBL studio L880s with a little over a month of moderate playing time, PM me.
Thanks again,
kobbi

A while back, I took some SPL measurements in my room while I was trying different sub locations. In max output mode, the vtf-2.3 was getting at least down to 22hz before the dropoff began. This was about the same extension that the max ext. mode gave me. I was expecting lower in the ME mode, but my results are probably due to room interaction. Anyway, 22hz is pretty good considering the extra SPL's that MO mode gives you. I know that I am happy!:D

In Max Output mode, my VTF-2.3 was dropping off at about 22 Hz, too. However, in Max Extention mode it is flat to 15 Hz and 2 db down at 14.25 Hz. I used Room Equalization Wizard and a Radio Shack Digital SPL Meter for testing.

I like the depth of max extention but I prefer the punch of max output. I only have one place to put it in my room. I am going to try the max ext witht he receiver set to 50 hz and see if I lose any punch. Thanks for the reply
Those are awesome numbers. Very inspiring so stop before they raise the price:D

Has anyone else gotten these kinds of numbers as well? I figured the 25Hz and 18Hz might be off but to drop to 22Hz on max output and 15 on max ext... that is awesome! At what level dB were you getting 15Hz ME and at what dB level were you getting 22Hz MO?

I don't have numbers, but can say for a fact in a small to medium room 15hz is not out of the question. I know the disc HSU supplies has a 16hz wobble tone which I believe goes from 15-18hz. At my normal listening volume there seems no drop off at all. You really can feel the pressure in your ears.
