Other than the 250w amp, can anyone speak to any other differences, positive or negative?
How is the 2.3 different from the 3.1, which I think was also 250w?

Yes the 2.3 is the 3.2 with a 250w amp. I think putting a 250w amp in that enclosure was a great move since the 3" ports couldn't really take advantage of the 350w amp. Putting the 350w amp in the HO enclosure and making a 3.3 was a great move. Now that amp can really be used with those massive 4" ports.
How is the 2.3 different from the 3.1, which I think was also 250w?Didn't know there was a 3.1, I don't see it on the site?

I was told by Dr. that there were many improvements on the 3.3 & 2.3 over the 3.1. So take all of the good that was the 3.1 and the accolades, and make them better, now you are in the new subs range! Would be interested to see the difference in the 2.3 with 4" ports v/s current 2.3 with 3" ports......

Below are the specifications on the VTF-3 Mk-1. It had a different enclosure size and it had a front mounted woofer instead of a bottom mounted woofer. Howard Ferstler reviewed both the VTF-2 MK-1 and VTF-3 MK-1 and said they sounded very similar, except the VTF-3 could go lower. I just upgraded from a VTF-2 MK-1 to a VTF-2 MK-3 and noticed a huge difference in depth and output.
If you read back throught the archives you will see that some upgraded their 250 watt amp in the VTF-3 MK-1 with the 350 watt amp that became available in the VTF-3 MK-2. They noticed an improvement, but it could be because the amp was of better quality or different design vs the old amp rather than just the difference in power.

Thanks guys I guess I was thinking of the new models and wasn't thinking all the way back to the MK1 days. I thought the OP was referring to a new model when he spoke of the 3.1. The MK1 was so long ago I had forgotten all about it.

SO the 2.3's 250W amp is improved over the 3.1's 250w amp in some way?

Yes, the current 250 watt amplifier has much more peak/dynamic power in comparison to the older [class AB] 250 watt amplifier. Also, there have been driver improvements over that time too. Without a doubt, I would say that the $499 is a significant improvement over the VTF-3 Mk1, which sold for $849 at the time!

I thought the VTF 3.3 had a Side mounted Woofer (from the Ferstler review)?? Speaking of which, as someone who will be in the market for a new subwoofer within the next few months, unless I am missing it, it would be very helpful if there were more pictures of the different subwoofers, showing different angles, etc. And perhaps the specific page for each available subwoofer could specify where the woofer is mounted (side, bottom, etc.).

Gotcha. Then Mojave should edit his post, b/c lots of newbies like me have to rely on the user descriptions around here, since the product pages don't tell the whole picture.
If I may ask, let's say you need to put the 3.3 in the corner of a room, and it has to be put close to the wall, with either the woofer facing out into the room, or with the woofer up against the wall. Is there a way which is preferable sound-wise in that situation, and would it be ok to put the woofer facing the wall if necessary for WAF (leaving room to breathe if necessary)? Thanks.

I fixed the description of the 3.3. Thanks for catching the error.
