i'm kinda confused by the description page for the turbo... does it fit only units with 4" ports or does it fit the mkii's with 3" ports? the initial description seems to say it's for the HO, but the "consumer review" attached leads me to believe it was attached to a vtf-3 mkII.

cory, the turbocharger is a perfect fit for the VTF-3 Mk3 and VTF-3 HO. It can fit the VTF-3 Mk2 as well, but the fit is not perfect since the turbocharger is 2" wider than the -3 Mk2.

Edit: I meant to say that the aesthetics are not perfect when turbocharger is used with the Mk2, but the fit and seal of the ports is just fine.

I see that it wont fit perfectly on the cabinet, but do the ports match up. Meaning, is the connection solid or is it kinda chicken-wired?

Stop by AVS Forum. In the CRAIGSUB RANKINGS thread he played around with attaching the turbo to other HSU sub(s). If I recall, it was designed for it and the connection was a DIY solution.

Possible - Yes

Originally my intent was to purchase 2 Ho’s with Turbo for my rather large space – Months of delays for this model forced me to make a decision, either go with the competitor or wait - After much reading on these forums I purchased (2) VTF-3 mk2 with the understood and claimed assurances that they could be upgraded with the Turbo accessory making them “future proof “and I still might fill the room with the required SPL via Turbo accessories.

It seems this is no longer the case, and I should hunt down some individual who did a patch job via DIY. This is utterly unprofessional and misleading for a company whose reputation has always been to take the high road.

As a consumer who purchased these units in good faith based on Dr. Hsu’s / Peter’s writings at the time of purchase, I now feel betrayed and abandoned.

As a trusting consumer I feel I’m entitled to the official policy on this issue.

The turbocharger does fit on the VTF-3 Mk2, and it works very well performance-wise. No need to feel betrayed. In fact, when placed in a corner, the aesthetics are not that bad at all. Turbo is easily removeable if need be as well. See this thread here:

Here are some of Legairre's impressions when using the turbocharger on the VTF-3 Mk2:

The turbo allowed me to play the same scene 4dB louder than the non turbo MK2. I tried this over and over and I found the point at which the MK2 would cry uncle and then back off 1dB. Then I tried the same scene with the turbo attached and the MK2 didn't cy uncle untill I went 5dB higher, so I backed off 1dB. The turbo played 4dB higher before distress. This is really great because my duals in opposite front corners gave the 5dB increase over a single so I was almost right back where dual MK2's had me before. Not only did the turbo give a 4dB increase the wave of bass is smoother. It's hard to explain it's almost like the wave doesn't bounce around the room as much, but you do get a more tactile feeling. Kind of reminds me of the way the dual MK2's were, the turbo allows me to play louder so MK2 hits harder, but things don't rattle as much either. The only way I can describe it is "smooth" and that's kind of how the duals felt the two subs just felt smoother than the one.

YES, the ports do fit fine, and make a good seal.

craigsub's evaluation made it seem as though fitting the turbo ports to the sub ports was precarious. What would make him feel that way? it seems as though if the match was simple and perfect (port wise), there wouldnt have been any reference made. Im just quite confused. How do the 4" ports of the turbo fit perfectly on the 3" ports of the 3.2? And what do you think would make craigsub comment on the precarious fitting of the turbo on the 3.2?

dafeist, the fitting with respect to the ports is just fine. If someone bumps into it, then it could get moved around of course, but other than that it is just fine.

So they dont "lock" into place then, they just sit flush against the subwoofer housing?

The top part fits into the 3" port "flare" while the bottom is outside. You can't fit a 4" pipe in a 3" hole. Due to the rubber surround it's a perfect air tight seal. Unless someone hits the tubes pretty good they aren't moving and they stay in place no matter how loud or low the material is. I owned this setup for a while last year and it's a great fit. If I hadn't upgraded to the HO w/turbo I would have bought a second VTF-3 MK2 w/turbo.

This is the first time I’ve read where the Turbo’s bottom end doesn’t actually enter the ports – nevertheless, I’m satisfied with the illustration – thanks for clarifying the obvious.
