Hello
I have read over the sub recommendation chart by room size. My HT room is 15X17X8 and is dedicated to HT, no music. There is only one exit in the room and it is the size of a normal doorway but there is not door or frame. I have selected the STF-2 as a direct match for the room size.
I have read in other forums about "feeling" subs below 20hz which is why I am considering the VTF-2 Mk3. It lists a bottom end at 18hz, the STF-2 is at 25hz. The VTF-2 is also listed as being for large rooms.
Would the VTF-2 just be overkill?

I was using an STF-2 and just recently upgraded to a VTF-2 Mk 3. My room is slightly larger than yours, but opens up into the kitchen area on one side which makes it in effect a lot larger. Then there are also three doors. What I notice, using the term another forum member used, is that the VTF-2 plays with more "authority." I would say it depends on what you listen to, but I can tell that the VTF-2 goes lower and has more power. I have mine set at 9:00 on the volume dial. The STF-2 was no slouch and is an excellent sub but it doesn't go as deep. I never had volume problems with it, though - I had that set at 10:00 and it was plenty loud. To me, the VTF-2 Mk 3 is more majestic, or authoritative... like it is ready to rumble whenever the need arises.

I also had an sft-2 for a while and was happy with it even though my total space was greater than 4500 sq ft. The stf-2 was adequate enough if you are not into earth shaking, kick in the gut bass. I know it will do well based on your dimensions.
When I upgraded to the VTF-2 MK3, I felt that it gave me another dimension in bass capability. It was richer and went deeper, had more force and the umpfft factor when needed for HT, yet blended seemlessly with musical bass.
It is musical enough not to give you a headache for "over bass" and strong enough with more to give when called upon for rich deep shaking bass.
If you think that the VTF-2 mk3 is too much you can always lower the volume. It's when you keep wondering the "what ifs" is what you want to avoid.
Like monkuboy said the stf -2 is no slouch, but the VTF-2 MK3 will give you bass bliss....you can't have to much bass...
Good luck :)
