Hi,

I am a newbie and need your help for a new sub selection. I have a dedicate HT room 21Lx15Wx9H. I am currently using an old 10" power sub made by EOSONE (don't know the specs). It sounds OK but since it is the only sub I ever own I have nothing else to compare. I've heard good reviews about HSU subs. The use would be 80% formovie and 20% for music. Please give me your recommendation on which HSU sub would give me the most bang for my bucks. If you were me, what sub would you buy? Also, should I add the new sub to the old sub or just have the new one by iteslf? I heard mix/match sub is not a good idea. Thank you for your help.

Sonny;)

Hi Sonny, welcome to the forum!

Does your room open to any other areas of the house, and if so, what are those dimensions (HxWxD)? Do you have any particular budget and/or enclosure size constraints when it comes to a subwoofer?

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try using the Eosone with an Hsu sub, but you may want to try using just the Hsu sub first to see if the Eosone contributes in a positive or negative way to the system.

Thanks

Sincerely,

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your response. The room is totally enclosed. My budget is open for now. I always heard advice likes "buy the biggest sub you can afford". That is not what I am looking for. I just want a sub or subs that would fill that space without being overkilled.

Thanks,

Sonny

Thanks Sonny. I'd say that any of the VTF or ULS subs will work very nicely in that space. You can always start with one subwoofer, and add a second identical subwoofer at some point down the road to further boost performance.

Thanks Pete. Between (2) VTF2 and (1) VTF3 which option would you recommend?

Thanks,

Sonny

I have one vtf3-mk3 and absolutely love it. It produces very tight bass for music, and hits you in hard during LFE in movies. I have heard that multiple subs does a couple of things, 1) each sub doesn't have to work as hard to produce that wow factor, especially if they are co-located, 2) if they are place away from each other, they can smooth out the room's affects and give a more consistent frequency response across all of the room.

Whichever way you go, you will have some very big grins on your face. :D

That's a tough question Sonny. Both are very good. Dual VTF-2 MK3 will give as much or more output at most frequencies, while giving one the potential to smooth out frequency response too. That said, a single VTF-3 MK3 is lower in cost, and one can potentially add a second one down the road to have an even more powerful system than dual -2 MK3.

Probably can't go wrong with either option.

Thanks kwolfskill and Pete. I am leaning toward the dual VTF2 option. I will get one VTF2 now and add a second at later date. For ~3000sqft room size, a single VTF2 (spec. up to 4500sqft) should provide plenty bass.

Thanks,

Sonny

Hi Sonny, with that measures, you can't go wrong with the dual VTF-2. I think is perfect to add a second one later... good luck!!!

And please, let us know once you receive your new member.:D

You are going to really enjoy that subwoofer. It is a beast! It should be a big improvement for you.

I got my VTF2 on Monday. This sub is much bigger than I thought. It took me about less than an hour to unbox and calibrate the sub (MACC on SC-05 Pioneer Elite) . I played the KungFu Panda blu ray disc to do the test drive. I picked the scene near the end where Po fought with Ty Long. All I can say is WOW! The bass coming out of this sub is amazing. For the room size I have this sub still has plenty of reserve power. The volume on this sub is only set at 9 o'clock. I chose the ME option because it will be used mostly for movie plus it has plenty of output in this mode. Overall, I am very happy with this sub. I am considering a dual VTF2 in the near future. Highly recommended!:D
