I own a pair of TN1220HOs, and a Hsu Model 500 amp. I am purchasing a receiver with dual subwoofer outputs and Audyssey processing, so I'm interested in driving the subs separately (for better EQing). Any particular amps that would serve well for this? I listen at reasonable volumes, so I don't need thousands of watts of power, but I'd like to avoid distortion, as well as too much fan noise (my amp will be in the same room).

I've heard the Peavey IPR 1600 is surprisingly good, and I've also glanced briefly at the Samson Servo 600. Both of these are probably more power than I'd need, so if there is a cheaper amp that will serve just as well I'm interested.

Hi pkasting,

I think you should first try things out with the 500w Hsu amplifier. You can separate the two TN's so that they are both roughly equidistant from the main listening position, and Audyssey will attempt to smooth out the combined subwoofer response.

Note that if you do end up with non-Hsu amps, then there are a couple things to watch for: one, we recommend the bass optimizer to get the proper EQ and subsonic filtering, and two, we recommend not using ultra power (ie. well over 500w continuous) amplifiers, as the TN woofer may reach it's excursion limits.

Sincerely,
