Hey,

I just got an STF 2 on Friday and have been struggling with placement all weekend. It seems that I have two placement choices:

a) the sub delivers moderate bass to the listening area, but also delivers police-sound-cannon levels of bass elsewhere.

or

b) the sub delivers moderate bass elsewhere and minimal sound to the listening area.

My room is 28' x 15'7" with 8' ceilings. Before you ask, yes, the couch is close to the center of the room, and there is a big bass null behind my head. I attached a comically bad drawing to help. On my pic, red explosions represent spots where I've tried the sub. Yellow areas are in-da-club style bass. Blue is obvious lack of bass.

I believe (based on what instruments & notes I can hear in the music) that I'm hearing sound from 30-something Hz and up, but I know I'm not getting super low frequencies in hip hop or action movies when sitting on the couch. Walk over to the bookcase, and good luck, sir, your teeth will rattle.

The best placement seems to be under the left speaker, but...

Disclaimer: This is a new house and my first non $300 HTiB sub.

I will do anything that is cash neutral to hear those low sounds. I appreciate all advice and help! Please!

Hi rsherer, thank you for the great diagram!

The best location for the subwoofer is the front left corner (as viewed from the main listening position). Unfortunately it is a reality that inside a room, deep bass will tend to sound strongest when one is sitting closest to the walls and corners, and weakest when one is sitting furthest away from the walls and corners (especially towards the center of the room).

I suppose that there is no way that you can re-arrange your system so that the L-shaped couch be placed along the side and/or back walls (ie. upper right hand corner of the picture), right?
