Hello,
The VtF2-Mk2 has two RCA inputs. Should I run a mono cable from the receiver or use a y adaptor and have two connections?
Is there any difference, good or bad?
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Just run a single rca to the left input on the sub.

Thanks Wid. Do you have any suggestions for which cable?

Any quality "shielded cable" is fine as for sub use its very low bandwidth. The longer your interconnect needs the better the shielding requirements of your cable. I have tended to find the better video cables have the best shielding and thats what gives me the best results and helps reject any rf/em noise.
Personally I use Beldens 1694A with Canare rca connectors which makes it a cheap great low cost - low loss cable over any length.

I have taken a liking to BlueJean cables (http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/subwoofer/subwooferprices.htm). They offer a quality cable at an affordable price.

Is there any disadvantage of using Y adapeter and also i am not sure what is the reaon of having 2 rca input if we are suppose to use only mono cable.

You only need the one cable, there is no real advantage in using a Wye connector. The two inputs come in handy when running a stereo configuration using outputs from a preamp or integrated amp.

Hello:
I have an HO and an MBM. I used a Y I got at Radioshack and I ordered the sub cable here at HSU (plus my MBM came with one as well).
It was only $15 and it works fine.

I think the OP was referring to using a Y cable at the sub. The two inputs are for stereo preamps and not necessary with the sub out. I have heard of a few people using the Y because they believe that it makes the input more sinsitive for auto on and this may be true.
I asked my neighbors (non audiophyles) why they had a Y connector on their sub and they said the store said they needed it and the store installed it. It is sad that people trust these so called installers as experts. It is usually an exception to the rule when you find someone knowledgable in one of the big local stores.

I use the Y-adapter because the manual (VTF-2 original) says to... I really can't tell for sure if it adds to the auto-on signal sensing sensitivity... but what really does work for me is to set the sub volume level very low (like 8 o'clock) and use a relatively high setting for my amp's sub pre-out... like +9dB (on a scale of -15dB to +12dB, its an Onkyo). My sub never has a problem auto-sensing a signal and I believe there is less distortion overall as well.

So what is the final answer, use a single cable or Y adapter for this sub?

Thanks again Wid. I have on order an 8 foot Signal Cables Subwoofer mono cable with bullet RCA connectors.
