I love my 1st stf-1 so much I had to buy a second lol. It is a quality product. Dang that makes 3 subs I bought from HSU in last month or so.

I am using these for 2 channel music only paired with 2- polk audio lsi9's running full range. When setting up the second sub into my system can I wire the subs in stereo format using the speaker level inputs? Or do I have to use the subwoofer (rca) pre out with a y-splitter?

For example: The left channel from my amp to the left speaker level input on the sub and out to the left speaker. Same on right side.

I have the sub crossed over at 50 hz right now and I find I can localize the bass from the sub a bit too often. Tried every imaginable position and level on sub. What do you all think?

Hi ctrulock,

That is correct, with the STF subwoofers, one needs to feed the high level inputs to run true stereo subs. With the VTF/ULS subs, one can also run stereo subs by feeding the low level (rca) inputs.

Using two subwoofers that are spaced apart and equidistant from the main listening position should help to reduce localization. Also, setting the subwoofer level in balance with that of the main speakers will help too.

Let us know how it goes when you get the second one!

Thanks so much

Sincerely,

Hi ctrulock,

If you're still around.

After adding the second stf-1, can you tell me whether or not you noticed an appreciable difference overall in sound quality?

Thanks!

Ross

After adding the 2nd sub I originally wired it in true stereo feeding 2 polk audio lsi9's. I could not get it to integrate well because my problem all along is the 50 hz boom from my mains and I can only run a full range signal to them in that configuration.

So, I added a 10 band EQ to the mains (lsi9's) and ran a Y splitter from an un-equalized sub pre-out. I cut the 30-60hz range on my mains a bit.

Wow my system has never sounded so good. Even though the bass is duel mono it is perfect. My goal for my 2 channel system was to have very good sound at lowish volumes. I actually have strong detailed bass at pretty low listening levels. Never boomy.

I read somewhere once a nice rule of thumb. "Never upgrade any component to a system unless it will improve the sound when you turn the volume down as well as up."

If you are just trying to fill a large room with high spl I really do not know. I listen at low levels critically and I can say it is definitely an improvement.
