My questions are:

1. If I send full frequency to the low or high level inputs on the back of the VTF-3 MK2 (one or the other not both at the same time) and I set the crossover on VTF-3 MK2 to 40hz, what will come out of the subwoofer's low or high level outputs?

2. Will it be the full frequencies?

3. Or will it be only the frequencies above 40hz?

I assume the outputs are just like using a Y-adaptor and the crossover does not effect the outputs.

Assuming the VTF3-Mk2 is like the VTF3-Mk3 in this regard, the VTF3-Mk3 manual (http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/VTF.pdf) indicates in the table at the end that its built-in crossover is low-pass only. If you use low or high level inputs, they will be passed out unchanged, full range, at the low and high level outputs.

that's what I thought. Now I see HSU makes an outboard HP crossover for 100 bucks. So I will have to research that.

Check out what your receiver/amplifier is sending to the high-level outputs. Many, if not most, modern receivers start rolling off the high-level output below 60-100 Hz because the average front speaker can't handle huge amounts of power below these frequencies. If this is the case you're not going to get the proper signal to the sub. If you're going to run a serious sub then connect it to the sub-woofer output.
