Hello, I am planning to get the 1220HO w 500w Amp but the website says it is out of stock. Will there be new stock available? If the 500w amp is not available, what amplifier can be used power the subs (I'm thinkging of getting 2)? I need specifications such as 200W continous RMS at 4 ohms.

Also, is there a dealer in Toronto where I can listen to these subs?

Thanks!
jay

I had the same question.

I'll chime in since no one has answered the 2nd question. I have a pair of TN-1220's; shortly after I bought them, I tried them hooked up the 500 Watt Hsu amps vs a Carver a400X that I had laying around. It was very interesting- despite lacking the eq that the Hsu amp has, the Carver exhibited very good extension and a bit more slam. I felt that it went pretty much as low as the eq'd Hsu amp did. However, this was likely a function of the room gain of my particular room.

I'll also note that despite my feelings that the Carver marginally performed better, I elected to stay with the Hsu. The sonic differences were minor, but the Hsu is much more flexible (interchangeable X-over points & a volume know- the Carver is a home stereo amp & lacked any type of volume control).

I now have two of the Hsu 500 Watt amps, one that I bought from Hsu direct and one that I bought from an online aquaintance. My thinking was to later add two more TN's for a total of 4 ( ), but I've also considered hooking one sub up to each amp (more headroom & cooler running). So far the 2nd amp is just sitting in my rack, and I haven't decided what to do yet.

The single amp running both very rarely gets overly warm, and the only time it ever came close to trouble was once playing MechAssualt very loudly for a couple hours. Nothing else have ever gotten it very warm.

Any good quality amp will work, providing it can drive 4 ohms and crank out at least 200-240 WPC at that impedance.

Rob,

I think you must have posted your reply to the wrong thread. The question was when the 1220Ho w500 watt amp would be back in stock. Sasha.....can you provide in info on this?

Thanks for the insights Rob. What is the rating of your Carver Amp? Another option I have is to get 2 1220HO subs with optimizers and get an outboard stereo amp to power each of the subs. However, the HSU Amp looks like a bargain specially when bought as a package.

I don't really need the crossover of the HSU Amp as I already have a highpass Linkwitz Riley crossover for my satellites... not sure though how good they will integrate with the HSU Subs though as they are rated at 6 DB per octave as opposed to HSU's 24 I think.

The HSU's will be a replacement for 2 Infinity Modulus Servo Subwoofers that gave up the ghost on me and I am having a hard time getting them repaired (broken amps). This time I learned my lesson... no more integrated electronics with a subwoofer if I can help it... which is why I am interested in the HSU subs.

With regards to availability, I got an email from Sasha that the Amps will be available sometime middle of December.

A L-R is 2 butterworth filter, offering at a minimal 12dB/oct of rolloff. The 6dB filter would not be in-phase nor would their summed output be flat in response.

Well what do you know?

Look on the front page, the 500 watt amp will be in stock soon (Dec 16).

If I'm remembering correctly the Carver is rated around 400 WPC @ 4 ohms, both channels driven. Loads of taut, steely power.

If you have a fairly powerful stereo amp you wouldn't need two of them; I ran one TN-1220 off of each channel. Of course you need a large amp that can handle that impendance.

Yes, the Hsu amp is a great deal, especially when bought as a package. Actually cheaper now than when I bought the trio a few years back.

Who knows, since I have two of the 500 watt Hsu amps, I may get 2 more subs eventually. But the two I have put out more than enough bass, so it's not a high priority right now.

The 500 watt amp is estimated to arrive mid December.

You can use your own amp with a single TN subwoofer as long as your amp is rated at 250 watts at 4 ohms.

The $99 bass optimizer box is available seperately can be used with your own amps, which provides subsonic filtering for protection and electrical compensation for the physical characteristics of the subwoofer.

Rob Babcock,
As a bass lover, I understand your dillema. Its hard to justify upgrading when your "already there".

So is the new 500w sub rated for the same RMS and dynamic power as the old one? Is the new one a complete redesign or is it the same as the old one with a redesigned class-H power supply?

Hello Sasha, how many days will it take to ship a pair of 1220HOs (with the 500w Amp) to Toronto Canada? Will they all be shipped in one package?
