About 8 years ago I bought my first (and only) powered sub-woofer - a Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 15, which has a 150 watt amp, a 15 inch woofer and a frequency response down to about 28Hz. (although on my AVIA sweep tests the freqency really seems to fade at 40HZ and die out at 36HZ)

Compared to having no sub, I was initially impressed by what this sub added to my movie experience, but I know my current sub is an entry level type sub. What improvements could I expect to hear/experience with a VTF-2 MK3? I can see that the frequency response numbers will be better, but when I am watching a movie (or listening to music) will I notice a major difference? Will I have that "wow" factor? Will I feel the rumble instead of just hearing it?, etc.

I guess I am trying to justify the purchase of a new sub, or more specifically trying to justify the purchase with my wife who will say "what is wrong with the big black box we have in the corner now?" OK, I don't know that I will be able to justify the purchase with her, but should I be able to notice a major improvement?

well if ur sub already dies out at 36 hz then it should be a real nice improvement. my corner loaded stf-2 is strong to 25 hz and drops off by 3 db at 22 hz. and thats only a stf-2.

Pelly, I replaced a subwoofer that played similar to yours with a VTF 3.2 (almost identical to the 2.3 I understand). There is an amazing addition of low frequency that you will feel in some movies. For instance, in War of the Worlds, my sofa vibrates and when the screen shakes I do too! My wife two floors above me could feel it. That never happened with my old sub. In music, the lows are crisp and clear.

I just recently upgraded from an entry level sub to a VTF-3 MK3 with Turbo. I can't discribe how much of an improvement this sub is from my old Sony SA-WM40. The bass is very low and tight. Not as boomy as many subs I've auditioned. I am in the processing of watching some of my old DVD's again because with this sub it is like I'm watching them again for the first time. It is equally impressive with movies and music. I think my cat needs therapy after I rocked my living room with Darla tapping the fish tank from Finding Nemo.
