View Full Version : Ventriloquists Arrived!

My Ventriloquists arrived yesterday. Installing today. VTF-3R (originally ordered VTF-3, but switched to -3R because of -3 being unavailability until January) arriving tomorrow. Just in time for family visit on Thursday.

The figure shows my home theater configuration. The floor plan is cluttered with spouse-locked objects, resulting in compromise being necessary. One object is a 36" TV. The DVD and Receiver go under it. The subwoofer will displace a base unit under the gun cabinet. Everything else has to hang from the beams on the ceiling, including the NEC projector. That puzzled me for a bit, because it fires upward. Then I found the setting that inverts the picture. Invert the projector, hang on the ceiling, invert the picture.

As good as I think the Ventriloquist system is, that is a mighty big room for those little speakers to fill!

Let us know how it sounds!

The VTF-3R will have no problem.

I've figured out why the Ventriloquist system is so inexpensive. Hsu has an interest in the companies that make speaker cable and banana plugs! Banana plugs (gold plated, of course) go for $4 each at the local Radio Shack, and 12-guage "speaker cable" goes for 49-cents a foot at the local Home Depot. Were I to use banana plugs for everything, connecting the speakers would cost more than the speakers themselves.

Consumer Reports said that home theater receivers are "plug ugly." Very true.

Retread, how did you do the diagram of your room? I'm about to get my system and want to use a diagram to help with placement. Thanks,

Mike

Isn't it a 6 speaker system plus sub?

I use a program from Microsoft called Visio.

It's a fairly expensive program, but I do a lot of communications drawings. My personal profile says I'm a retired engineer, which is true; I've retired from civil service, and retired on Social Security, but still work around 2500 hours a year as a consultant. Hence "Retread." Also "Retread" because I didn't pay any attention to sound systems for about 20-years.

Another intersting program is called CARA.

It has a little program to draw room diagrams. The cool thing is it can

1) calculate your room's acoustics at various frequencies
2) recommend an optimal subwoofer location
3) simulate your rooms acoustics through an acoustical filter.

It's under $100

http://www.cara.de/ENU/index.html

We'll be providing acoustical models of our subwoofers next year.

It's a Ventriliquist system plus an extra rear speaker.

BTW, are extra ventriliquist speakers available on an individual basis?
