View Full Version : What should I do?

I made a decision the better part of a month ago to get the new VTF-3 (which has subsequently been called the VTF-3 MK2). When I made that decision, the planned release date was November 21.

After that, the date was pushed back to Dec 21. Now, I don't even see it scheduled on the main web page. I interpret this as meaning that the date has been pushed back (at least) into January.

I thought I was being patient waiting until Nov 21 (since it was the last piece of my HT system). When I saw it slip until Dec 21, my patience was beginning to waver (for a variety of reasons, I really wanted to have my HT system completed by Christmas). Now that the date has been pushed even further back, I'm torn about what to do.

I guess my options are:

o Continue to wait until it (MK2) finally comes out
o Purchase a VTF-3 now
o Purchase an STF-3 when it comes out (will its date slip?)
o Purchase an STF-2 (or maybe a VTF-2)
o Consider other alternatives

If I already had a sub and was simply waiting for an upgrade, waiting wouldn't be a big issue. However, since I don't, I really am getting impatient.

If I wait past Christmas, I might just wait until the next generation of subs comes out. I hate to mention competitors' names (so I won't) but the manufacturer of the speakers that I have purchased will probably come out with a sub sometime in the first half of next year that would be very attractive to me.

Suggestions?

Do you have the rosewood Rockets? You can get a rosewood VTF-3R for a special price right now. Your decision really depends on what type of finish you want. All the Hsu subs from the cheapest to the most expensive $80k system have a wonderful reputation.

There are some subwoofer manufacturers (that we have debated about here before) that list their product for sale and then make make people wait 2 months for it to be shipped. Hsu will not play those games to make a sale. He wants to be sure that stock is plentiful before releasing it.

Wait one or two months for years of happiness. It is worth it.

Some new neat looking subs coming out, but they are likely not to be of the caliber of Hsu. I have almost no doubt that his new $399 STF-2 sub could bowl most people over.

I thought Sasha Goodman may have mentioned this earlier, but the factory says that the piano black coat is taking longer to dry than they had orginally envisioned because of humidity in the air.

Here it still says VTF-3 MKII available early January:

Michael,

When I put the order yesterday, I was told VTF3 MKII will be available in Jan/04.
This will be my first Sub too and I have spent nearly two months
searching, including some big famous name in forums and even
DIY kits. When I realize what I'm looking for from a sub in my audio system, Hsu shines! I think Hsu's sub is well worth the wait.

VTF-3R($849), VTF-2, STF-2 are available right now, go for it!

I had the same problem. Instead of waiting until January, I opted for the -3R at the "special price" mentioned by Michael Bain down the thread a ways. Shipped next day, arrived here less than a week after order.

Yes, the humidity is delaying the piano black a bit, but our current estimte is around Jan 5th.. Our estimates are being updated every week or so, and I'm doing my best to put it in the calandar for the website.
