I am selling five (5) of the HB-1 Mk 2 bookshelf speakers. They are like new; I purchased them at the end of March this year, picking them up directly from the Hsu warehouse in Anaheim. I am not including pictures because I put them back in their boxes in the garage and there are no marks or scratches on them so they look like the pictures on the product page. The finish is satin black.
Why am I selling them? I was (am) very happy with them, especially using 5 of them in a 5.1 setup with a VTF-2 Mk 3 sub. The two fronts combined with a sub sound great for music, too. However, I ended up purchasing a set of Mirage OMD speakers from Vanns because of the sale going on, and I couldn't resist the chance to upgrade at such favorable prices. It has nothing to do with my satisfaction with the Hsu speakers, but everything to do with being afflicted with upgraditis and the never ending quest. :D
How do the Hsu's compare to the Mirages? Sorry, Pete, but the Mirages have a much higher WAF. :) Sound-wise, however, there is NOT a night and day difference although the Mirages at their original price cost nearly 5.5 times as much as the Hsu's. The Mirages sound more refined and natural, and of course the front towers have better bottom end than the Hsu's (you definitely need a sub for the Hsu speakers but then that's how they were designed). The Hsu speakers hold their own, though - they are very clear, crisp and can handle a lot of power. Even though they have horns, they do not sound at all harsh. I was using one of them vertically as a center channel and dialog is very clean. I guess the bottom line is that the Mirage speakers are more transparent - they disappear more than the Hsu's so you don't feel you are listening to speakers.
I have Swans D2.1se's that I am using as fronts in a 2-channel system, and I had a set of Emotiva 6.2 speakers that I was using for music and home theater before replacing them with the Hsu's. I honestly feel the Hsu's, when using a sub, are a little better than the Emo speakers and at least on par with the Swans. The Swans have better bass but in the mid and upper range they both do a great job. In other words, the Hsu's in my opinion are very, very good speakers and are an amazing value for the price.
I am selling all 5 as a set (don't want to split them up because it will be too hard to sell pieces) for $500 cash, local pickup only. I would like to thank Pete for graciously allowing me to list them here (and compete with the new ones). I am located in Southern California, in the west San Gabriel Valley area. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks!
