This sub works great and outperforms the front firing 12" that I had been using. Have a couple of peaks in the 50-80hz range that need some adjustment. Just received Sound&Vision Home Theater tune-up DVD that I ordered. Now I should be able to track down the exact freq. that is giving me trouble. The manual mentions setting x-over bypass switch in and turning up lowpass to 90hz. Doesn't this throw the phase of the signal 90 degrees by using receiver x-over and sub internal x-over? I'm also in the process of building a 2 band parametric EQ to smooth things out. Thanks for a great product. Jim

Doesn't setting low-pass bypass switch to "in" mean bypass the crossover completely?

No, crossover is bypassed when switch is out

Under what conditions does the manual say that? Maybe it was a typo? I'm confused because I wrote a lot of the manual and know you should use the receiver's crossover when possible. If you have a receiver with bass management, dolby digital, THX, etc., its best to switch the crossover on the subwoofer to OUT.
Switching the crossover to IN would only be advisable with some two-channel systems or surround sound systems that have a really weak crossover slope.
As far as how the crossover effects the phase, I'm not exactly sure, but the phase switch is more of a fine tuning adjustment to be done after the crossover. So, it would correct any phase issues caused by the relative distances between the listener, subwoofer, and speakers, and possibly the crossover.

My manual says to set it to out "if you are using the SUBWOOFER or LFE output on your controller."
However, it later says that "if the bass sounds boomy, it may sound better with the crossover switched IN and the CROSSOVER FREQENCY set to 90 Hz."
My question is whether or not the crossover frequency knob has any effect if the crossover is set to OUT. If I have my crossover set to OUT can I just ignore the crossover frequency knob?
Thanks.

From years of owning subwoofers I always leave the frequency at the highest setting even if the defeat is on.

That's what I was thinking. Just to be sure...
