I'm looking to upgrade to a nice sub that will fill my approximately 2,400 cubic ft. basement with powerful, clean sounding low frequencies.
Examples of subs that I think would fit the bill that would also be in my price range:
HSU STF-2
HSU STF-3
HSU VTF3-MK2
HSU VTF3-MK3
SVS PB12-ISD or NSD
Outlaw Audio LFM-1
Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus
Please PM me with anything you have available (either new or used) which would fit my needs. My target max price would be $400.
Thanks,
Justin

Well the cheapest one that will get you the better is the Outlaw LFM-1 Plus, but if you want the more powerful, best, insane sub of the group it is obviously the 3.3

Only if I can find one used that is being sold for a decent price ... the brand new price is out of my price range. :(

Justin, I have a comment you might see frequently around these forums (fori :) )... most of us have gone through a money losing activity called UPGRADE. Once you get something in audio, particularly a subwoofer it seems, you'll want a better or bigger or faster one... or more than one, lol. I'll wager 90% of the people on this forum started that way.
So...my suggestion to you is buy the best, most satisfying sub you can afford and then some. In the long run, you'll save money and have lots of extra time with that WOW factor!
Happy sub hunting!

Upgrading because you couldn't afford what you really wanted in the first place always cost you $$$$$$$$$. Take the advice of the experienced people on these forums. They have all done the upgrade path and know what the costs have been. I myself wishes that I had found HSU when I first started this insane upgrade path. 4 upgraded subs later, I get the 3.3 Turbo. HSU gives you the best bang for the buck. :) :) :) :)

1) Then you will need to state your price point.
2) Hope for a b-stock unit.
3) Hope for something to show up on fleabay.

bsoko is right. The upgrade monster is sure to get you as it has all of us. I am lucky as I found this forum after only 2 subs and not 4 like bsoko. I have the 3.3 turbo now and it is awesome. If you can pull it off, get one even without the turbo...you can add that later.

Appreciate the feedback, everyone. I am definitely going to try to get the best sub I can afford, to avoid having the upgrade bug hit me right after I get the sub. But as always I am limited by my budget...which I have added to my original post.
Thanks again,
Justin

Since you added your $# you might want to redo/reevaluate your list. Some of those subs are very difficult to find in your price range, i.e. finding a 3.3, unless you are willing to wait years for the newness to wear off.
Based on your list your options would be limited to the STF-2, -3 at that budget.

I have the VTF2-MK2. My room is 2,900 ft (3). It has worked out very well. I run the sub's amplifier at the third notch (9 o'clock) which is one notch above that recomended by my A/V's auto calibration (Pioneer MAACA). Anything beyond and wife goes crazy! The VTF-1 has a slightly less powerful amp. If you look at the B-stock inventory on the third or last Wednesday of the month, the inventory is updated. For May, I believe there was (were) VTF-1s for $320 plus shipping. This fits in your budget.:D

Feisty, amdeutsch, Tomorrow - thanks for the feedback.
I've narrowed down my selection to a used HSU, SVS or Outlaw Audio sub. I think that's the only way I'm going to get the caliber of sub I'm looking for in my price range. So, I'll be periodically checking eBay, Audiogon, my local Craigslist, various forums and finally the B-stock pages of the three companies mentioned above for any good deals that I can find.
I almost snagged an Outlaw Audio LFM-1 yesterday on eBay for a very nice price, but was outbid at the last moment. The search continues ...

Welcome to eBay as that's how the game is played. You have to decide on what you are really willing to pay and then sit back and wait, then jump in and bid that amount in the very last few seconds, so you don't incite a bidding war as many people will end up bidding insane amounts in the last several minutes of an auction because they suddenly feel its personal. The only feeling worse than being outbid is the feeling of buyer's remorse when you realize you bid way too much and "won" the auction. These used subs you are lusting after are highly sought by many other 'budget' conscious, knowledgeable audio-system builders/up-graders. When you compare the 'used' pricing verses the price of a new sub, the difference can often be quite small indeed. Good luck in your quest.
BTW, PM me if you are interested in a VTF-2 (original model, circa 2001, Class AB amp) and we can 'talk' price.

Yup, I've been using eBay for a couple of years and have found that to be the case much more frequently in the last year or so. I always wait until about 30 seconds are left in the auction, and then bid the price that I'm willing to pay. In the case of this Outlaw LFM-1 that I was referring to, it was about $30 less than the final auction price. Oh well, I really wanted black and it was silver anyway.
PM is on its way.
