I recently sold my MFW-15, I loved that sub. But as we all know AV123 went under, I did not wanna be stuck with a 65lbs. paper weight. So now Im back to where I was 6 months ago....looking for a sub. My friend bought an HSU vtf3 mk3 around the same time i bought my MFW-15, he has it paired up with two klipsch sub 10's and I got to admit it sounds good, but his room is much smaller than mine, My room measures 24x20x9 not to mention a hallway leading to the kitchen. The only thing holding me back from buying a vtf3 mk3 is my budget i only have 500 bucks to spend, so i was looking to buy the vtf2 mk3 my question is this sub too small to fill this room or doI need to go bigger???....I have a decision to make soon because as I stated im sans Subwoofer.....I miss my bass. my decision has come down to the Hsu Vtf2 Mk3 or the new Epik Legend, but my concern with that one is that its a sealed box...here are the spaces for that one:

Audiophile dual 12 inch compact subwoofer system
300W RMS amplifier
Parallel Drive Technology ™
Sealed cabinet design for improved sound quality & subsonic performance
Opposed side-firing drivers cancel out cabinet vibration
Stackable, side-by-side or separate placement abilities
Outstanding midbass performance
Massive 3/4 inch thick internally braced cabinet
1 inch thick grills with acoustically transparent fabric
Compact CAD designed enclosure
Precision CNC machined
Full 1 inch radius corners throughout
High quality black laminate finish
RCA dedicated LFE and Crossover inputs
750W short-term RMS
Frequency response : 20-200 Hz +/-3.5 dB
16 - 18 Hz usable in-room extension
Weight: 80 pounds shipped
Size: 18 H x 15 W x 20 D (13W w/o grills).....So please can someone help me...???

Hi mozfreek,

You have a fairly large overall volume of space to fill, so try to get the biggest subwoofer that you can comfortably fit into your budget and enclosure size constraints. At near the $500 price point, it's hard to do much better than something like VTF-2 MK3. The -2 MK3 has high output capability and very flat frequency response (+/- 0.5dB from 16-200Hz, when measured outside and away from reflective surfaces). In this large and open space, I don't recommend using a relatively small sealed box whose lower end rolloff works better in small-to-medium sized spaces that are well-enclosed.

Sincerely,

So you think the Vtf 2 would fill this room well?....My mfw-15 was huge and the rumble while watching movies was felt. I want to buy the Vtf3 but it's abit out of my price range unless you guys have a b-stock somewhere hiding in there :D ?.....Im including some pics of my listening room, I want to place the sub behind my couch in the corner, but I've read and been told that the front corner of the room is where it's going to be the loudest.

Thanks for the pics. I'm sure that the VTF-2 MK3 would work very nicely in that space. I would experiment by putting the subwoofer in the front right corner or the back right corner of the room (as viewed from the main listening position).

Sincerely,
