Given the above numbers maybe it is time for a special run of Max Extention STF 3's. :D

On both my vtf-3 mk 2 and my vtf-2 I keep them tuned to max output. I tried them both ways and am really surprised that more people don't go plugless. My vtf-3 will play down to 20 Hz with ease with the plug removed, and besides it just sounded better to me in this mode.

I have both my VTF-3 MKII and VTF-2 (original version) tuned for "Max Extension", although I haven't experimented with the VTF-3 MKII in "Max Output", yet.

I experimented and compared and even measured the frequency response with 1/6th octave signals and the max extension goes lower with a lot more authority and sounded better to my ears too.

I have tried both max extension and max output settings for a significant period of time. "Secrets of Home Theater" reviewed the VTF-3 in Jan 2004. Secrets recommended max output as the best setting for the VTF-3. I completely disagree. The greatest benefit of the VTF-3 is the ability to hit 16hz. You cannot hear the sound, but you most certainly will feel it.
I suggest listening to a favorite bass track while standing outside the room with the door closed. Try it with both max extension and max output. I think it's best to listen to a regular movie and normal listening volumes while outside the room. The lows of max extension are obvious from outside the room, many times on different floors. Remember you will feel the bass rather than hearing it below 25hz.
Many people want only to hear sound. Bass is different, with low bass you feel it.

Max Extension
I graphed both max ext and max out with the rat shack meter and found that the most flat freq response came with the max ext. This is of course with my room which is of course unique, but I would say that I do not need another 3db of headroom. I have the volume knob on the sub amp up to only about 8 oclock and it is plenty enough to shake the entire foundation of my condo complex. So why not go with max extension over max output???
Yet still curious about the turbo. . . ..
