Quick question ..
I have a VTF3 MK3 - the instructions say to lay it on the sub side so it fires down into the carpet - is this true? If so, what's the point of the feet on the sub if the feet are just on the side of the speaker?
I'm not happy with the output of the sub, my room is smaller than what it's rated for and it doesn't even come close to being overpowered. I'm sure it's not the sub itself - it has to be something I'm doing wrong with the settings on the back of my sub or maybe something to do with my receiver (Yamaha 1700)

Wiluven, where in the owners guide do you see something which says that? The VTF-3 Mk3 should be oriented on it's rubber feet, unless someone has a height restriction when used in this orientation.
May I see a sketch of your room? Also, do you have any large openings to other rooms?
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Wiluven

From the Owners Guide under "Important Guidelines" -
"Your subwoofer was designed to fire downward onto carpet. If you have hardwood flooringq, use a throw rug under the subwoofer"
Maybe I'm reading this wrong but in my mind that reads as "Lay the subwoofer so that the 'screen' on the right side of the subwoofer is now on the ground'.
I just have it on it's feet as that seems a bit odd to me...
I'll draw a sketch and put it up once I get a little work done this morning.
Thanks Peter.

Thanks for the prompt response Wil. That statement looks like it was accidently carried over from the VTF-3 Mk2 owners guide. The Mk2 subwoofers all had downfiring drivers, and hence were designed to fire downwards onto carpet or downwards onto a throw rug on hard floors. The VTF-3 Mk3, of course, has a side-firing woofer, so that statement need not apply, and no need for a throw rug on hard floors and no need to intentionally fire the driver downwards.
Looking forward to the sketch!

That's good to hear - sounded funky to me :)
Below is a 'paint' job of the room - as well as a link to picture(s) that doesn't quite show the whole room but gives you an idea of the layout and the openings (that entertainment center is gone but TV is where it stands).

Thanks for the great drawing! Try putting the subwoofer in the rear left corner, giving at least 3-4" of space between wall and ports, and at least 1-2" of space between woofer and anything that it fires towards.
Let me know how that goes for you!

Would you want the sub firing out into the open or towards one of the two walls there?

Try both orientations and go with what sounds best to you...

Thanks Peter - Haven't been on here in a while and was happy to see you're still here answering questions.
You've been a big help!
