I would like to drill the bottom of my VTF3 to install Tnuts for mounting spiked feet. I would like to see if it makes an audible difference. Are all the electronics clear of the bottom? Is it safe to drill into the 4 corners of the bottom to insert the Tnuts? I have not bought the hardware yet and I am not sure how far I will have to drill. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks - Frank

We suggest you remove the existing feet with a phillips screwdriver. There will be four holes that you can use for your spikes. The problem with using T-nuts is that they should be on the inside of the cabinet, and this makes it more difficult because you need to take the entire subwoofer apart. We suggest you don't use T-nuts, and instead tap the existing holes just big enough so that the screws for the spikes fit tightly in the wood. Make sure there are no air leaks caused by a hole that is too big.
I should add that we will not be responsible for any damage to the subwoofer that you cause.
Good luck!

Sasha,
I bough my VTF3 from you Invoice #117 dated 7/29/2002. There are no feet and no holes in the bottom of my VTF3. It is perfectly flat on the bottom with no place to install any feet. What gives? - Frank

I forgot that some units were intentionally shipped without feet. We started shipping some VTF-3s without the plastic feet because some of the feet were breaking in shipping. The VTF-3s have a round plastic disk for the feet. Due to some improved packing material, we started including them again a month or so later.
The screw-holes for the feet are located exactly 1 1/2 inches from each side of the VTF-3 corners. The bottom is 3/4 inches thick, and as long as you keep the screw under that length everything should work out.

I notice with your new VTF-2R and VTF-3R both have spikes instead of plastic feet.

Will these be made avaliable to new black VTF sub owners?
Spikes do work well for bass.

Ddavidson,
The brass feet sold with the Rosewood VTF subwoofers use machine threaded screws that go into T-nuts on the bottom of the cabinets. The black VTF subs use wood screws, so you would need to know how to use a drill to tap a hold *just* big enough for the metal screws to go in and still hold tightly. We will have some extra VTF-3 feet in June, so you can order a set of 4 for your VTF-2 then. :D

It would be nice to see them offered as an optional extra for fitting at any stage. I am sure some hard floor owners can see the advantage of the flat plastic feet so you may find some Rosewood owners may also need the option. It certainly is hard to please all the people all the time but by offering flexibility you can at least try to grab as many as you possibly can.
Perhaps rubber/plastic pushout plugs for the T nut holes could work for those sub that come with plastic feet? For those with the brass spikes (Rosewood) perhaps pre-drilled holes for the self taping wood screws. (that is if the feet cover the hole locations)
Anyhow I hope you could start to offer the spikes for sale as an optional accessory. Perhaps you could also then do a step by step DIY fittment with photos on this site for those who are not quite sure. This would of course include the normal disclaimer, especially for those who fail to be able to work out how screw in a light bulb.http://hsuresearch.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
