I emailed this question in but have not received a response so I figured I would post it here:

I need a sub for my bedroom 2 channel system and am considering the STF-1. I have Mordaunt Short MS 20i bookshelfs which this sub will be mated with. The system is in support of a TV and will be rarely used for music. It will almost always be at a moderate volume for television and movies. The room is rectangular and 18-5" by 15-4". Do you think the STF-1 will meet my needs? If not how should I decide between the STF-2 and the VTF-1? I know that the difference is in the variable tuning but based on volume needs I would just keep the VTF-1 in Max Exc all the time. Does this make it the same as the STF-2?

Thank you! I can't wait to place my order.

Hi abarickman, and welcome to the forum!

Your room seems large enough where an STF-2 or VTF-1 would be most desireable. These subs work well in rooms up to about 3000 ft^3, while the STF-1 is best in rooms up to 1500 ft^3.

Considering that you plan to keep the sub in a fixed tuning most of the time, then STF-2 is the way to go! The extra $50 savings can buy you some nice DVD's :)

Take care
