Is this true? I know I do, given that I've owned enclosureless dipole planar speakers for a long time, I've always looked at subs in which its enclosure does not become a factor in terms of coloration. Hsu's intense desire to design subs that would mate seamlessly with his Quad ESL speakers made me take attention to this company even more.
But from most of the people that says that they own Hsu, they seem to have box speakers. So where are the other ESL/dipole/planar owners?

I think I saw it in a Hsu research ad on Stereophile's website. Can't find it now because it is a rotating ad.

I guess that I fall into the 35% category with Martin Logan SL3's... as stats are so quick, it is hard to find a sub that can keep up with them. I had a DIY sub for years that I thought was pretty respectable. That is until I borrowed a friends VTF-3. It was like adding a sub to what I had. There is bass in my music that I had no idea was there. Not only that, but the tightness to the bass is WAY better controlled.
Take a wild guess what sub I have now?

pmwoodward,
I guess the SL3 would be considered part of that 35%, but technically, it really is not, since that speaker has a dynamic woofer. Mating the dynamic woofer with a dynamic sub is not as hard as with a pure ESL/panel unit.
But it might be all for the better, let the ESL/cone integration be handled by the designer.

Lwang,
True, the SL-3's are a hybrid design. And I would have to agree again about integrating a sub, my previous CLS, a pure planer speaker was most definately more challenging to integrate a sub to.

That spec is probably changing since we posted it. Now we sell to a more diverse group of clients, including more home theater users.
Before, we sold primarily out of small ads in the back of high end magazins and most of our reviews came from magazines like Stereophile, Absolute Sound, and Sensible Sound. Because of these music / high end magazines, we were discovered by owners of electrostatics and ribbons. These speakers almost ALWAYS have no bottom end.
Our subs proved excellent matches for speakers such as Magnepans, because the sound quality kept up.

I paired up my VTF-2 with a set of Axiom M-80's.Although they are full range speakers the sub seems to add that little extra bit of fullness.Together they sound pretty darn good to me.I was at first looking to get some Maggies but the WAF was not good due to there size.Maybe some day.

Phornars? What have the world of genetic modification come to? But as they say, once they go flat, they never go back. At the planar asylum, we weep when someone leaves us and goes back to listening canned music.
Maybe these planars would get you to dump your horns:
