I've posted on AVS and have read an extensive amount of threads relating to Subs. At first I had a few choices, such as SVS, eD, and HSU.

Well I've now decided HSU is the route I am taking, but I am now tore between which models.

Not a big avid AV guy here and primarily 50% HT and 50% Music. I really want an all around killer sub.
So:

Room is roughly 17x13
2 openings into other rooms: About 6ft and about 7ft
Vaulted ceilings in room, 10ft

STF-2
VTF-1
or
VTF 2.3 (But I am LIMITED on space and this pushes it a bit)

I would say I'm a bit more into music that anything and the speakers that I will be matching, is a set of B&W 602 S3.

Basically the sub will complete the system and I am REALLY looking forward to this.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Don't skimp on this. Get at least the VTF2.3 as a 12" driver is going to give you the extension for both music and movies compared to the 10" driver of the STF-2.

Is there a big difference between the STF-2 and the VTF-1, besides the variable tuning?

Go bigger! Get the 3.3 Turbo and don't look back. Then later when you have more $$$, add the MBM-12 to the 3.3 Turbo and you will have the ultimate in bass. I did it!

Hehe... yeah. Money isn't the problem here, it's space.

And if you put 2 2.3 stacked(one on top of the other...?

Yeah, not in the plan to put in a double stacker. If I do anything with 2 subs, which is possible... They would be on each side of the room.

Any main differences between the VTF-1 and the STF-2? Per the question above...

I know people will be suggestions go big, but in all seriousness I do want to stick with the 3 above. I mean is the 3.3 really going to make that big of a difference over the 3.2, per the extra cost??

Thanks all

Hi slvr,

I think that a VTF-2 Mk3 placed in the nearfield corner should do a really nice job for you. Just make sure to provide at least 2-3" of space between the rear-firing ports and the wall. If budget is really tight, then an STF-2 in the nearfield would be a fine choice too. There isn't a huge amount of performance difference between the STF-2 and VTF-1. The VTF-1 has an improved driver and variable tuning capability, but the STF-2 is $50 less expensive.

Sincerely,

Yup, I'm thinking the VTF 2.3 will suffice nicely, I'm just worried about the 2-3" additional spacing, but I think I can get it to work. I have to make 1 final mesurement when I get home after work.

Budget isn't really of concern, I mean I'm not about to toss down on a JL or Top dog Velodyne... when I can get an HSU.

Thanks for the heads up on the STF-2 / VTF-1.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Yes the 3.3 is far more better sub than the 2.3 in output at the low hz at least...

My VTF-2.3 plays flat down to 14.5Hz in my 2600 cubic foot room. I upgraded from a VTF-2.1. To help with the low frequencies when I had the 2.1, I installed two Buttkicker tactile transducers in my floor joists. The room really shook!

After I received the VTF-2.3, I unhooked the Buttkickers because I needed to move the amplifier to a new location. I tried the VTF-2.3 (with MBM-12) without the Buttkickers and played the crash scene in Flight of the Phoenix. I couldn't believe how the room shook without the Buttkickers. It has been about 10 months now and I still haven't hooked up the Buttkickers. I'll get around to it one of these days, but they haven't been missed much with the VTF-2.3/MBM-12 combo.
