View Full Version : ULS-15 Placement + MBM-12 Question

I am excitedly waiting for the ULS-15 that I just ordered and decided to get some input into its placement before it comes.

My current setup is as follows:

2 Polk Monitor 70 II Fronts
2 Polk Monitor 60 II Surrounds
2 Polk Monitor 30 II Heights
1 Polk CS2 II Center

These are connected to an Onkyo SR608.

My current plan is to place the ULS-15 to either the left or right side of my television stand. The corners in the front of the room have bookshelves (which the Monitor 30's sit upon) which rules out a front corner placement.

As soon as I get the ULS-15 set up and rolling, I was seriously considering putting in an order for a MBM-12 (probably by the end of the month.) I was planning to put in a somewhat near field location, close to the couch where a table and lamp currently reside.

I know I hear a lot of people saying here and elsewhere that it is best to get a second ULS-15 first (and I do plan to eventually) but I think that the MBM might be the best price conscious near term decision (i.e. best bang for the buck.)

My goal would be to have the ULS-15 handle under 50hz. The MBM-12 take 50HZ-90HZ and cross the rest of my speakers over via the AVR at 90HZ.

I've attached a few images of my setup, which are reasonably accurate as to the layout.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

A second ULS-15, when used in conjunction with sub equalization technology (e.g. Audyssey Sub EQ HT or SVS AS-EQ1) would result in the best bass response, IMHO. As much as I want to understand how a MBM would help, I think dividing the bass response between several high-quality true subs and the low frequency drivers in your satellite speakers is the way to go.

Hi Mainiac,

I would put the ULS-15 in the front right corner (as viewed from the main listening position).

I am a fan of the MBM-12 MK2. The mid and upper bass is extremely tight and punchy. Place that close to your listening position.

Sincerely,
