I purchased a VTR-2 about ten days ago. I have been adjusting its position, etc. The cheater plug eliminated my ground loop hum, and now my issues relate to volume.

I have a Sony 6.1 amp (DE1075). I know - I know, I need to upgrade -- speakers are first on my list though.

The VTR-2 is connected through the LFE subwoofer output. The signal was initially so strong that the rear volume setting is probably at about 15% -- nearly all the way to the quietest setting. I adjusted the receiver to -1db rather than turning the sub even lower. I also stuck a piece of carpet under the sub as it is on a hardwood floor.

I get wonderful bass on movies and through 5.1. When I play music, using the front two speakers plus the subwoofer, there still usually seems to be too much bass. I am wondering if it could be my inferior Polk front speakers -- lower end bookshelf models?

Does anyone else have issues where a balanced set-up has the subwoofer virtually off? I recall another thread where the owner needed more input strength.

My VTF-2 gain is set barely beyond the "off" position - around 8 o'clock? I don't see that as a problem per se. VTF-2 simply has a lot of gain already built in...

You should be able to turn the receivers "SUBWOOFER" or "LFE" channel gain even lower than that, without causing any harm. Most receivers go to -10 or -12 dB. If so, turn the receiver down even more.

You can turn the other speakers up if that is not enough, which will counter-balance the volume.

I thought from playing a few years ago that those Sony's have a seperate level for just the LFE?

Don't you also have to watch out for turning the receiver lfe level down so low that the VTF-2 won't wake up when it should? Or does it have an 'always on' setting?

There is a point where the VTF-2 will not trigger on if its too low or else it will be slow turning on. I myself like it to be on all the time because auto on/off curcuits work well in theory but I hate them in practice. I always get annoyed when I miss the disks start-up bass because the thing is slow coming out of sleep mode.

Better to know that its on and have the auto curcuitry by-passed. I would rather have good bass for every cord not just the 4th or 5th cord.
