I purchased a VTR-2 about ten days ago. I have been adjusting its position, etc. The cheater plug eliminated my ground loop hum, and now my issues relate to volume.
I have a Sony 6.1 amp (DE1075). I know - I know, I need to upgrade -- speakers are first on my list though.
The VTR-2 is connected through the LFE subwoofer output. The signal was initially so strong that the rear volume setting is probably at about 15% -- nearly all the way to the quietest setting. I adjusted the receiver to -1db rather than turning the sub even lower. I also stuck a piece of carpet under the sub as it is on a hardwood floor.
I get wonderful bass on movies and through 5.1. When I play music, using the front two speakers plus the subwoofer, there still usually seems to be too much bass. I am wondering if it could be my inferior Polk front speakers -- lower end bookshelf models?
Does anyone else have issues where a balanced set-up has the subwoofer virtually off? I recall another thread where the owner needed more input strength.
