I'm planning on purchasing a 5.1 speaker package (actually I've already got the .1 as a VTF 3 MK 2.) I'd like to know what the benefits of using the HC-1 are to just using 4 HB-1's. Obviously we're talking about one more woofer here, but how will this effect my HT listening experience? Will it really help to make dialog clearer? fuller? I know one of the reviewers actually used the all HB-1 setup and was very pleased. I've always really liked the idea of using 3 matched speakers up front. Any ideas?

Hi grant,

It is not a bad idea at all to use HB-1's all around. We've used that setup at audio shows in the past. The HC-1 is useful when people must mount the center channel horizonally in their room.

I saw the other post about using the HC-1's all across the front in a 7.1 setup. What kind of difference in sound would there be between 3 HB-1's vs. 3 HC-1's up front? I mean it seems with the extra woofers the obvious answer would be a "fuller" sound, but has anyone at HSU done any kind of comparison between these two setups? With a crossover set at 80 Hz would these extra woofers change the sound noticeably? I really appreciate the feedback.

I haven't done a comparison yet, but perhaps Dr. Hsu has...? He can be reached at techsupport email.

Sincerely,
