Here is a quick layout of our room. The entertainment center is flanked by 2 Triangle Antals with the matching center. The M&K K4's (not shown in pic) are on either side of the couch mounted up on the wall. I am also using a NAD T-754 and plan to add a MBM-12 at a later date. I was thinking in the corner were the desk is located and then placing the MBM-12 where the side table is on the left of the couch.

Thanks for your help!

Great drawing weverb!

I think you are on the right track with respect to placement. In addition to placing the MBM-12 on the left hand side of the couch, you could try the right hand side of the couch, or sideways directly behind the couch if possible.

Let us know how it goes!

Sincerely,

Thanks Pete! Do you still recommend seting-up with the Radio Shack analog SPL meter over the digital? Why?

Your recomendation of the MBM-12 on the right side of the couch....it is ok to have both woofers on one side? I thought it was best to have them in opposite "corners".

Analog would be preferred since the digital one's resolution is limited when compared to the analog.

Yup, that's exactly right, although I understand that analog meters may be difficult to find these days.

weverb, no need to have woofers on opposite sides. The idea of MBM + true sub system is to have mid-bass experienced in the nearfield and deep bass experienced in the farfield at the locations that are optimal for reproducing these bass ranges.

Great! Thanks for the help Pete. I have found a few used analog meters on ebay. I am going to pick one up.

Pete,

Got a MBM-12 today and have placed it on the right side of the couch ( about 6" away due to outlet access) as you suggested. Is there any other suggestions, it seems to be a little localized. I have the port firing to the front of the couch. How about turning it 90 degrees into the corner by the couch and have the port directed at the couch?

As a side note, my main sub is in the front right corner under the desk.

Thanks.

weverb, right now you have the MBM next to the couch on the side like an endtable (but 6" away), with port firing forward, correct?

What crossover frequency are you using? Presumably you are running the MBM with crossover switch set to 'Out', and are using the NAD's bass management features?

It certainly wouldn't hurt to try orienting it in a different position too.

1. Yes.
2. NAD is set to 80Hz, main sub to 50Hz and MBM to 80Hz.
3. Switched the MBM from "In" to "Out". The NAD has 2 subwoofer output connections.

Did you notice a big difference when switching the crossover switch from 'In' to 'Out' on the MBM?

Feel free to try some different locations for the MBM-12, and/or rotating the unit or turning it sideways to see if you notice any decrease in the localization.

How high is the gain set on the MBM?

It seemed to be a big difference switching it to 'Out'. I played a lot of AC/DC witch has a lot of mid bass (from the kick drums, etc.) and it just sounded so good and you could feel every drum beat. I am going to go and replay 'Open Range' the gun fight scene and see what difference I hear and feel. :)

I am wondering if it is getting localized due to being under a side table. I will try and play it with it more this weekend. My main sub is under a desk, but that did not effect it (sounding localized) any.

That's a good point weverb. To the extent that anything very close to the MBM-12 is making any non-harmonically related noises (such as buzzing, etc) during use, then that would make the module more directional too.

There is no buzzing or anything. Do you think it would be better not to be located under the table?
