Would like some help with selection of a subwoofer. I am looking at the MK3 and the 3HO. I have a 5.0 system currently in a rather large room that adjoins another large room. The adjoining room cannot be closed and it is open along the tall ceiling for about 10ft. (The TV is located on the 21ft side and the opening is along the 17ft side.)
home theatre room is 21ft wide x 17ft deep x 20ft high = 2040 cu ft
adjoining room is two different heights 6ft x 12ft x 20ft high and 10ft x 17ft x 12ft high = 3480 cu ft
I'd like to add a single sub. Is the space just too large? If I do add a single sub, what will suffer?
Thank you for your help!

Good morning Bruce,
A single VTF-3 Mk3 or VTF-3 HO would work well in that room. If possible, I would place them sideways directly behind the couch, woofer firing into the couch (1-2" of spacing in between). Otherwise, a front corner should be fine.
The HO is ideal for a system used with MBM-12 and turbo. If you don't plan to add MBM and/or turbo, then go with -3 Mk3.
Sincerely,
Kingrsl

How tall is the ceiling? 2040cu ft is way off if the ceiling is 20ft high.

Great catch Kingrsl !
The room volume is actually 7140 cu ft with adjoining room of 5440 cu ft. Same questions as before....Would a single subwoofer work well here?
Thank you,

A single subwoofer would be hard-pressed to fill that size room. However, if budget is really tight, you might get acceptable results using a single Mk3 in max output mode positioned in the nearfield (sideways behind the couch or next to the couch).

If cost were not an issue, what combination of subs would you recommend? Prefer an approach that I could buy one component then upgrade with another over time.
Thank you!:)

I would prefer to have dual VTF-3 HO + MBM-12 if cost were not an issue!

Pete and Jim - Thank you kindly for your feedback!:)
I'll be ordering a VTF3 HO shortly. If I were to purchase a second sub now, which would you recommend adding first...an additional HO or the MBM 12?
Thanks again

Hey Bruce,
I would add an MBM-12 first, and then add another HO :)
