Hey guys,

I've owned my VTF3 MKII for a couple of years now. Just got a Turbo for it today.

I searched the past posts about this, but I didn't find what i was looking for. I was curious if anyone played around with any modifications to get the 4" tubes fit better, or inside the 3" ports?

This is something that is really bugging me. It's not too noticeable until I hit a scene with heavy bass, but the connection between the Turbo and the 3" ports leak air. I've read all of the post about this, and tried my best to get them to seal up against it a little better, but it's not working.

I keep playing the "depth charge" scene in U571 over and over again, and it still leaks air. I just can't get a good seal between the 2.

However, if I can get these 2 to seal up tight, I know I'm going to be completely happy with the final product. Even though it leaks a little, I can already tell a difference in the bass output :D

So has anyone done any modifications to get these 2 to pair up a little better?

Thanks!
Nick

Yeah, I read that before I posted this.

Maybe I just expect too much bass? I do like a lot of deep, chest filling bass whan I'm watching movies. But in big, heavy bass scenes(like the depth charges in U571), I can hear the air leaking at the connection between the 2 pieces. Maybe I just need to turn it down a bit?

You can't get the Turbo set in place where there is not leak?

Before I upgraded to the VTF-3 HO, I used the VTF-3 MKII with the Turbo. I get your frustration. It wasn't easy, but I managed to get the Turbo set on the MKII with no air leaks.

If you can't get that tight seal, I suggest you sell the MKII at Audiogon and upgrade to the VTF-3 HO (maybe 2...) with Turbo to quench your low bass thirst. I have one VTF-3 HO with Turbo currently and believe me, I have no interest in other subs. :)

Thanks for the comment. I'm going to mess with it more this afternoon when I get home. But I am starting to get frustrated with this, and maybe taking the easy(more expensive) way out is the best alterative for me.

Like I said earlier, normal movie playing and this thing freaking rocks! Get to a large explosion scene where it moves a lot of air, and I can hear the leaking seal. I'm sure there are no production failures here. Just trying to join 2 pieces that originally weren't meant to be joined together.

If you can't get that MKII with Turbo combo working to your 100% satisfaction, I would take the more expensive route. Get the VTF-3 HO (you already have the Turbo for the real deep bass performance...) and get the MBM-12 (if within your budget...). The MBM-12 is the real deal and combined with the HO with Turbo, you'll be as happy as a "pig is bass dirt" :) . I get a chuckle everytime I play the Finding Nemo scene in chapter 8 or 9 where the submarine slides down the cliff and slams into that mountain - there's some serious low end in that particular scene and the HO plays it like it has endless low-end headroom, impressive to say the least.

Last time I checked Audiogon/Videogon, the VTF-3 MKII is holding its value very well. It usually sells used for $550-$575.

Maybe thats what I need to do. I guess I'm expecting too much from this unit in a larger room.

Like I said, I'm going to play with it a little more this afternoon, then come to a final decision then.

Thanks for the info.

I think that's not a bad idea. Send back the turbo (or sell it locally), and then sell the -3 Mk2 and upgrade to either -3 Mk3 or -3 HO. You should be able to get over $500 for your -3 Mk2, it has very good resale value.

I don't want to get rid of the Turbo. Just upgrade the sub, and buy the VTF-3 HO without the Turbo. Then use my Turbo on that unit.

Your new room is pretty large and opened, you may be asking too much out of the VTF-3 MKII. You could also buy another VTF-3 MKII used and run dual sub configuration, that would give you an additional 6dB in output. But since you already have a Turbo unit, the VTF-3 HO upgrade makes more sense.

I haven't been here for a while. I guess I am so happy with my Hsu Sub that I haven't felt the need. In looking at your post I am curious as to which finish you have on your sub. I have a Rosewood VTF-3 Mark II and am looking for a second one. I also considered adding a turbo to mine but don't think it is worth the hassle. A second Rosewood would be so cool and give me the output I want. However, it would not give me the depth. 18 Hz +/- 2 dB! Unreal! Anyway, let me know and good luck!

The sub I have is in the black finish. So it wouldn't match your system :(

If anyone is interested in this sub, please let me know. I am ordering a new VTF3 HO today, and looking to sell this one.

Thanks,
Nick

I'm looking for another VTF3 MKII, when you decide if you're selling keep me in mind.

Thanks,
