It is an average receiver...but will serve you well (THD% is a little high...)
But it seems right...
buy that sub and you will start to change things.... It is like the winds of change in a system.....jeje

Yah, will be my first real sub, really looking forward to getting my hands on it. I am going to pair this with the Ascend 340se's for the fronts and Axiom qs8's in the back, should make for some really good movies I hope!
Looks like they already shipped it to, should be here just after xmas =).

Total Harmonic Distortion usually measured from (20-20khz), is the amount of distortion the amp or pre/pro adds to the system when amplifying a signal or decoding it...Usually, the lower the number, the better the electronics...(It is a ratio that shows the sum of all the harmonics that are not part of the fundamental)

Thd levels on most modern day receivers are far bellow the threshold of human hearing. Don't worry about this spec; the Sony will serve you well.

It can be taken as a reference in order to know how good overall the electronic is...An electronic with lower thd vs a higher one, you dont need to look no further because overall the one that has a lower thd will have overall better design in comparison to the one with higher thd..
But as you said, not to think that you will hear this distortion at normal SPL. Nevertheless definately will have a direct impact on how you perceive the sound...It can serve as a guideline not as a rule...
