View Full Version : What affects how loud speakers/subs sound in small room?

I just bought a VTF3.3 and some speakers (Ascends).

I was very concerned about filling a 5500cuft volume (38' x 19' x 8') with sound based on comments from many posters and replies to my posts in different forums. I waited long time waiting to see if Turbo version of VTf3.3 would come on sale.

Now I have my speakers and sub set up and it seems to have no problem filling sound in the space accurately. I have set the sub at 3 on the dial (out of 9 or 10 Max) w/Max Extension mode and don't have to turn my 90Watt amp very high to have it sound really (deafeningly) loud, feel lots of air move for LFE's.

I am now trying to figure out why?

1. People here listen at something above deafeningly loud volume levels?
2. My big room has hardwood flooring everywhere and that makes big difference in reflected sound?

Please advise. I'm trying to understand if there's something more I'm supposed to expect from a subwoofer that I haven't experienced yet.

Hey tman,

The VTF-3 Mk3 does do a nice job filling large rooms! Does your room have any large openings to other areas of the house? Where is the subwoofer currently positioned in room?

You should try max output mode too when you get a chance.

Thanks, I'm glad that you are enjoying it!

Sincerely,

Sub is corner placed with about 12" distance from port to wall. I don't plan to move it from that corner too much.

There is only a small 3' wide hallway leading off of this 39' X 19' X 8' space.

I definately will try Max Output when work shuts down next week-- but already very happy and quite amazed with what this sub does.
