I have a 16 x 12 x 8 space to fill with one side open to LR, the back open to Kitchen. I would like a 5.1 system with the rear surrounds in ceiling. Can someone make a suggestion for substitituting the rear HB-1s?

I have always been one of those that think that "in walls" or "in ceiling" speakers could not be up to my standards on sound quality.

I recently moved into a new home, and although the livingroom is large enough for full range speakers all the way around. The bookshelf speakers I had were just in the way, and were at risk of being knocked over from their stands with a 6 year old running wild in the house.

I have HTD brand speakers, and have always been very happy with their product. They have a nice warm sound to them. I called HTD, and asked them for a recommendation. They suggested their HD-80 "in wall" speakers. I figured I'd give them a try. Worst case, I'd have to patch up a couple of holes.

Got the HD-80's, and I was actually impressed with their sound quality. Price was very reasonable, and warranty is impressive.

I haven't tried their "in ceiling" speakers, but giving you a long story to suggest the HTD brand :D

They are local to me in Dallas, Tx. So I was able to go up there and demo them in their sound room. You probably don't live here, so that may not be appealing to you(buying speakers you have never heard). But, just throwing my $0.02 out there.

They are certainly reasonable. I was hoping to find a match to the HB1. This may do it. Any of the Hsu Crew able to comment?

This is what I'm currently using in my great room for 7.1; (3) Speakercraft AIM 8 Level-3 for Lf/C/RF, (4) Speakercraft Aim 7 Level-2 for LS/RS/LBS/RBS, and of course an HSU VTF-3 MK3 sub with DSP1124. I know ceiling speaker setups are not ideal and heavily criticized so I'm sometimes hesitant to mention in forums about my setup, but, when someone brings up ceiling speakers I try to jump in and comment. The woofers and tweeters in these are independently aimable, and to my surprise after getting everything calibrated sound really good for HT, music video and such. I don't use this room for 2ch redbook CD listening, but for most else it's very impressive. I especially like the rears in the ceiling such as what you are only going with. There are many good brands, so I'm not trying to sell anyone on Speakercraft, just saying I'm very impressed with the sound so far.
Good luck!
