I am thinking about getting a mbm 12 mainly for music, but I do watch movies too.

I see all kinds of reviews for the mbm 12 for movies, but very little for music and that's by far my priority.

I have Axiom m60's for my main speakers, an SVS sub for the low bass (I have the crossover set at around 50 hz on the SVS). I also am using a Dayton 10 inch sub for nearfield impact, and the crossover is set at 80 hz on it.

I listen to music around 85 to 90 db, so is there any need for an MBM? Would it give me more impact than my current setup considering I don't usually listen above 90db and I already have a nearfield sub?

I am looking for that ever elusive kick in the chest feeling for music, and I'm wondering if this is it. Is it possible to feel the bass in the chest at 90db with music?

I feel the bass with my current set up, but it's more subtle than I want. It's more tactile than punchy.

Here are some pictures of my setup.

I've been looking all over the internet looking for reviews of the MBM for music, but it seems most people are using it for movies.

I guess it's the same story here?:(

I notice from your room setup pictures that you are a Husker fan. Where do you live?

I listen primarily to music and I have a VTF-2 Mk3 and an MBM-12. I upgraded from a VTF-2 Mk1, which had a 10" woofer. I had all three for a few weeks before I delivered the VFT-2 Mk1 to its new owner. I tried using the 2.1 as a midrange just for fun when setting everything up, but the MBM-12 is so much better. It is actually located in the exact spot that I had my 2.1 so it was already just a few feet from my listening position.

I crossover my MBM-12 at 120Hz. It never seems localized, even with music. It really provides a very nice presence and is more enjoyable than the VTF-2 Mk3 by itself. Because I have relieved my mains of some of the lower frequencies, they seem more dynamic and I think of them as having a sweeter sound.

I started all my paragraphs with "I." :D

Laughing out loud @ mojave. :D

The MBM-12 should improve both music and movies in most systems. It will give you wider dynamic range, reduced room reflections vs using a corner-loaded true sub to handle mid-bass, lower output compression, and lower intermodulation distortion.

Thanks for the info guys.

Mojave, I live in Kansas City (suburb), but I went to school at UNL back in the mid 90's - they seriously spoiled me back then! I didn't follow the Huskers before college, so I thought, "wow, this is how things are - you win 3 national titles in 4 years". It's a bit harder now to be a fan.

Sounds like the mbm could be what I'm looking for. Would you describe it as "puchier" than your true sub? When I crank up my svs I just get more low end ruble type bass, not the kick in the chest bass.
