I am looking to buy some VT 12 speakers along w/ either the STF-2 sub or VTF-MK3 sub.

Right now, my total room size in 14’x13’.

My music, video, theater & staging area is 10’x8’. When I sit on my couch; I’ll be 7’ away from the LCD. So I feel that this small VT-12’s will do the job J , right?

~ Now as for Subwoofers I am looking at both the STF-2 sub and VTF-MK3. Yes, I know the sub is about $300.00 price difference, but is there a huge sound difference between these two subs?
I know either will do the job great, but I just need to make sure that either one of these two subs will fill out both my staging area and also the whole room (14’x13’)

I ran a software program and did take all measurements and here is what my projected setup will be.

The sub is behind the couch. Notice the back area where the PC is at, I plan to put a BAR area here.

Any suggestions on anything please let me know? Thanks a bunch!!

---- Oh not sure if this helps for my sub question.

~ But I used to own a velodyne vrp 1200 subwoofer. Would either one of those two I mention (HSU) be better then this VRP1200?

Thanks again

Hey PC,

Presumably you have standard 8 foot high ceilings, correct? Also, does your room open to any other areas of the house?

The VT-12 system should work nicely in that room with the STF-2. The VTF-2 Mk3 or anything larger will give you more output and more deep bass extension, but at a price of course! I'm not familiar with the VRP subwoofer, but I can say that the Performance 2 package (VT-12 with STF-2) is a good choice for the room.

Sincerely,

Hi Ya Pete,

Opps, the ceiling are actually about 9' in height.

The room is a loft/game room. It has a look down area, but I have closed it off w/ heavy velvet drapes b/c I used to have a full dedicated theater room and now I want more then just a HTR.

This is a pic of coming into the HT right now. I assume still it will be treated as a wall.

This is what it looks like now :D

So you think the VT12 w/ STF-2 would be a perfect match?

---- > Oh, since I did also get rid of my Onkyo TX-SR602 a/v receiver, I am in need to search for another one and it seems that Onkyo is highly recommend for HSU setups. Now what about the entry level Onkyo TX-SR304? Circuit City has a huge sale for a new one for like 150.00 now :D It says it's only 65watts. Should be plenty to push these VT12's I assume?

Thanks

Looks nice! Yes, I think the VT-12/STF-2 system would work very nicely. If possible, try placing the STF-2 either in the front corner, or close to your primary listening position (next to your couch as an endtable, or sideways directly behind your couch).

WoW! Quick response :D

Well I cannot put it next to couch b/c that is a walkway to the back area to get to the PC. How about the front right corner (over by the TV)?

sideways directly behind your couch

So laying the sub sideways and the SUB facing the back of the sofa?

~~ How about that question on the Onkyo w/ only 65 watts? Should I get something w/ more watts?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am just worried b/c I never heard small tweeter type speakers that sound really good (Bose suck/but sound nice when your only 3' away from it, lol).. but I am sure these VT12's are huge improvement over those bose type speakers. Everyone I know or demo is always bookshelfs or towers. I would like to not see speakers and have guest wonder where the "HELL is that sweet sound coming from" :) ;) So thats why I am shooting for the VT12

Front right corner placement is fine. Also, if possible, you can try putting the subwoofer sideways (ie. simply rotated sideways, not flipped sideways) directly behind the couch. Note that the woofer is downfiring, so you don't need extra clearance between the side of the cabinet and the couch.

The Onkyo should work just fine. We are a fan of their receivers.

Take care

Pete,

I was thinking and I did some more adjustments. I was thinking since a PLASMA or LCD is going to cost as much as my front Projector, I was thinking that maybe this makes more sense. Tell me what you think as for the placements now?

Pete -

What would you think about this:

VT-12 (5.1)

(1) STF-1

(1) STF-2

I think this is more then enough the pop the eyes off me and my guests that come over for some flix. What'cha think?

I'm thinking the STF-2 in the front right corner and the STF-1 in the rear right corner.

About the plunge....

or how about 2 qty of the STF-1 w/ the VT-12 and save about $50 bucks from the above post/thought??

Which combo do you say?
