I have had my new VTF-3 for a couple of weeks now, and after experimenting with placement in my family room, I have found that the perfect placement for the sub is under the TV, firing directly at the center listening position. It is AWESOME! ONE PROBLEM though: it is inside my large, built in, entertainment center. The Amplifier is only about an inch or two from the wall, and the front of the sub is open to the room. I have resolved all of the resonations from the Entertainment center, but my fear is that the Amp will not get enough ventilation. I definitely do not want to harm the Amp by letting it get too hot. I use the sub for 99% movies, 1% music, and the only time I really crank it up is for movies and demonstrating deep bass music for my friends. Am I taking an unecessary risk by having the Amp this close to the wall? Should I mount a quiet fan back there to increase air flow? I am very nervous about this because I love this sub and definitely don't want to harm the new pride and joy of my HT system. I would appreciate any suggestions you can give.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

First, you should give the VTF-3 about 3 inches on the back to reduce turbulence from the air moving in and out of the ports. To prevent turbulence, that distance is needed on the back only.

As far as cooling goes, if the back of the entertainment center is not open, you should give the sub several inches on the top (most important) and the sides also. If you can give it this amount of room, a fan isn't really nesessary.
