Pete..... First of all thanks for all of your help 2 weeks ago when I came up to Anaheim to pick up my VFT-2MK3. It is one fantastic sub! When you demo it you played 2 videos that contained 2 drum scenes. One was the pebble being thrown into the drums and the other was the mechanical set of drums. Could you tell me the titles, I would like to get those. Second question, I ran the SPL readings with the test CD and it was very linear except it was 5 dB down @ 40 Hz. Is there something I could do to improve that or is this OK? This is my first sub and I am really enjoying it. Glad to be a part of the Hsu family.
Thanks again,
Roy Hansen

Your rooms dimensions are going to mess with your subs frequency response a lot. You could try moving the sub around a little bit, live with it, or do some EQ or room treatments.
I have some bass traps and a velodyne sms-1 I use for sub EQ. These options can get pretty expensive though.
This is assuming your response just has a dip at 40hz and then goes back up. If your sub does not have much output at all below 40hz that would be a problem. If you just have 1 dip consider yourself lucky! My first response looked like a roller-coaster! (I am in a small square room though -- acoustics nightmare).

Hey Roy, hope you are doing well!
The disc with the bass drums is called Animusic.
May I see a diagram of your room with current subwoofer position? Presumably you are using an 80Hz crossover right now through your processor, is that correct? A 5db peak/dip is not very uncommon, as the room and placement position can play havok on frequency response, but you might be able to improve that by slightly changing the subwoofer position by even a couple feet.
Thanks!
