View Full Version : VTF-2 MK3 question

I'm considering the VTF-2 MK3, but have a concern about room size.
My room size is 17 X 13.5 wide with a median height of 10.25' (vaulted ceilings @ 13' highest point 7' lowest). My numbers come up with 2352 total cubic sq.ft. So now I'm torn between the VTF-3 MK3 and this VTF-2 MK3. The only reason why I'm confused is due to the other room that's shared with the Family Room - A eat In-Kitchen. This area is about another 1180 cubic sq.ft. I don't watch Movies while in the Kitchen, but I would like to be sure I'm not going to be losing sound quality because of this bleed over. I come up with 3537 cubic sq.ft. for basically my entire back area of my home, minus the dining room. My main L/R speakers are Klipsch RF-82, with an RC-52 center channel - pushing this is an Onkyo TXNR801.
I admit I like the size of the VTF-2 over the VTF-3 (i'd like it to be less, but hey). In the schema of things I guess size is menial compared to if I'll be happy with the sound or not.
Thoughts, suggestions, comments are welcome.
Respectfully,
Jay

Hi Jay,
I think that a VTF-2 Mk3 should work quite well in your room, and even in rooms up to around 4500 ft^3.

Great to know. My room is little over 1500 cu ft. Will I feel the bass on the VTF-2 MK3? I want it shaking and rattling my walls and picture frames. Is this the one? :D

Pete - Let me just say you been a great help and responded to my post.
~ I have one more question to ask.
Today I went to a local home theater store and they had offered to let me listen to the Paradigm DSP 3200. It was a 12" sub and they played Ocean 11. I was honestly not impressed. I first asked the sales rep what specs does it say this sub will go low as. He said he was not sure. I then said to him it sounded like my old VRP1200 and sounded like farting @ 50hz. Maybe I was rude, but he seemed very stuck up!
I guess the sales rep got offended and said this sub will play low as 20hz (I just asked him and he said he didn't know). Maybe he got upset.
Anyways - I told him for $650 I should at least feel the sub/bass standing 4' away from it, which I didn't. lol
I left the store. I then went to a very hi-end stereo store. They had the B&W's. The lowest price 12" sub was with a 900 watt amp (900 wow!!). Played Toy Story and Fantasy 4. Sub sounded excellent, but it was for a steep price of $1800. GULP!!
Sales rep there was really nice, but they did not have any other subs to offer.
Then I went off the Best Buy. Listen to the Klipsh 10, 12 and JBL 12. I left the store b/c I cannot bare the annoying sound.
I just wanted to say after all this, I am just going to take my chance and buy the HSU VTF2-MK3. I am sure it will be impressive. I just wish you guys were next door. ;)
~ Oh never mind, I see that I for sure will enjoy the HSU over the Paradigm DSP 3200

Buy the VtF-2 MK3
For the price you just can compare a factory direct price vs a store one...

First off Pete-HSU thank you! Seriously... I have to admit I was a bit sckeptical about getting the VTF-2MK3 for a couple of reasons. One being I couldn't hear it live - well without having to fly out to California. Secondly the size. I'm guessing there's quite a few people who have issues with the shear size of this sub. Well let me say I LOVE IT! Size, it fits great. Sound, glad I didn't waste the ticket out to California - not that I was honestly considering it. Anyway you slice it I'm very happy with the product! I'm completely new at understanding anything about sound engineering. Fact is some of the literature included was a somewhat hard for me to understand - mainly the part about -dB. That was until I started tweaking the sub for my own use. It was evidently clear to me why HSU has a great name for themselves!
I want to publicly thank Pete-HSU, customer support, and the company! The story behind the scenes if you would. Pete-HSU in this very thread aided in my decision to purchase a VFT-2 MK3. Secondly when I was checking out I had a comment about shipping. Realistically I didn't expect a phone call, voicemail, and a follow up with email to confirm how I wanted the sub shipped. I have some issues with FedEx. Seems I alway miss them and have to make a long drive, and normally wait awhile to get my parcels. Thanks for the support! Lastly upon receiving the sub the packing far excelled my expectations. Double boxed, re-enforcing braces, conforming foam, and lots of packing between to ensure the product arrived safely. Very nice! The real suprise was about an hour later... I listened to the demo CD, very impressive! Then I put Transformers the movie in to demo the rest of the system. Within the same day I had also picked up some Klipsch RS-42 rear surround speakers to compliment the RF-82 (L/R) and RC-52 center channel. Anyway the intro to Transformers sounded great! With all my cubic square space the VTF-2 MK3 shook my foundation, had my floors moving, my jeans I could feel vibrating against my leg. The mirrors, pictures, and sliding glass door just shook, rattled, and vibrated! WOW!!! And I was using what I considered a modest setting... In the midst of it all I just bursted out in laughter, then commenced to turn it down thinking, I better not make the neighbors angry.
Again, thank you HSU! I'll always highly recommended your product!
Lastly I wanted to include an image of the final setup:
