View Full Version : Adding an STF-3 as a second sub

Presently I have Mirge OM9 for my front speakers, OM-C2 for my center and an OM200 as my subwoofer. One of the early problems I had was unequal response with the subwoofer. I am guessing was due to the shape of my room. House has an open floor plan and high ceilings with many openings into other rooms. I kept experimenting and found I could smooth out the peaks and valleys to some extent by added a relatively inexpensive Yamaha Sub I had hanging around. Not the best solution, but for the time being it has helped quite a bit.

As you may have guessed by now, I am considering a second sub for my system to take the place of the Yamaha. I have looked at the new Outlaw LFM-1, the HSU STF-3 and several SVS Subs in the same price range.

How does anyone feel about using the STF-3 in conjuntion with the OM200. I will be using a ICBM for the crossover for both subs. Would it be better to turn on the Stero sub mode or Mono on the ICBM? Each one of them will be placed next to one of the OM9. I don't have much choice as far as placement due to ceramic tile floors and the inabilty to run wires under the floor.

The OM200 is down 3DB at 20 Hz and from what I have read the STF-3 is down 2DB at 25 Hz. Does that mean there will be a significant difference in sound between the two. My main concern is having one sub overpower the other if that is even possible.

Sorry for all the questions, the more I read, the more questions I have.

Peace, LTK
