I would like some opinion as to what I should get. A relative has a STF-2, and he is happy with it. His room has no vaulted ceiling and stereo setup is however different than mine. Therefore, any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

The new sub is to be placed in my combination kitchen/family room. The family room side has vaulted ceiling with 10.5' by 17' base. The vaulted ceiling is 16' at the heighest point and 8' at lowest. The family room is linked with and opens into the kitchen side (there is no wall separating the two sides). The kitchen side is 10.5' by 17' base. The height of the kitchen side is not vaulted and only 8' high. I calculated and found a total of 3570 cu ft for both rooms. Therefore, a loudness level of 3 is expected.

My stereo is set up along the 10.5' side of the family room. My receiver is a Denon AVR 5.1 system w/ 75watt RMS per channel. I am thinking of placing the new sub at the opposite side of the family room (the other 10.5' side). My questions are,

-is this setup optimal? Any suggestion to improve the sound is greatly appreciated. I used to get excellent sound from only 2 Paradigm front speakers. Ever since we changed to hardwood floors, the sound seems to deteriorate.

-will either a STF-2 or VTF2-MK3 help to improve the overall sound? I am looking to build up my 5.1 system and add a sub, two satellite and a center speaker. I would like to use them for music listening and to watch 5.1 action movies.

-suggestion for satellite and center speakers is also welcome.

Any idea and suggestion is greatly welcome.
Regards,
YM

I used to have a vtf 3 mkII until just a week ago. Its basically the same sub as the 2 mkIII. All I can say is WOW. Itll blow you away with its capabilities. A room your size will definately benefit from the added oomph of the 2 mk III over the stf 2. As far as optimal for your room, if you had a mock up of the area it would be a lot easier, but in general you want to put it in the corner of the room that is furthest away from the opening to the other room. This is, of course, not always the case but without a drawing, its where I would start.

i own a stf-2 in a mid sized room but if i could afford to upgrade to the 2 mk3 i would. The stf-2 is nice but that extra extension makes the 2 mk3 even better. If money isn't an issue get the 2 mk3.

I include a small sketch of my room and setup. I hope to get comments and recommendations from all experts out there. Thanks greatly.
