Hi
I have decided to go with Hsu Research for my subwoofer, but wanted to know if going with the VTF-3 MK3 with Turbocharger would be overkill?
My room dimensions are 24 ft long, 11 ft wide and 8 ft tall. It is a dedicated room for the home theater.
I will be using the Onkyo Onkyo PR-SC885P pre/pro and 7 200 watt monoblocks, but that is probably irrelevant.
Thanks

Enrique

Hey Enrique,

I don't believe in overkill :)

Do you have any large openings to other areas of the house?

Getting a Turbo VTF-3 Mk3 or HO system is just fine, but I would add MBM-12 at some point to maximize performance potential.

Sincerely,

Pete,
There are 2 openings to other areas. One of the openings is on the left wall at the rear and it is 4 feet wide. The other opening is also on the left 7 feet wide and about 16 inches off the front wall. This second opening will be covered with drapes as well as the opposite side of the front of the room.
I built this room in the basement of the house. All walls are insulated and the floor is carpeted.
I have already placed Echo Busters on all 4 upper corners of the room and there is a 10 inch riser also carpeted at the back of the room.

Thanks
Enrique

Thanks for the info Enrique!

Would it be possible to come up with a rough estimate of overall room volume including openings? Note that the VTF-2 Mk3 tends to work best in rooms up to about 4500 ft^3, while the VTF-3 Mk3/HO tends to work best in rooms up to about 6000 ft^3.

Pete
My estimate for the whole room including the openings is 2900 cubic feet

Great, then both subs should work very well in your room. The VTF-3 Mk3 will have lower extension and stronger deep bass output though.

I have one more question for you.
How does the VTF-3 MK3 with Turbocharger compare with Definitive Technology SuperCube I. My brother has a complete Def Tec setup with the SuperCube II and personally I do not think it is very impressive, but his room is huge and not dedicated to home theater.
I am just confused by the specs in the SuperCube lineup.:D

I'm not hugely familiar with the Supercube subs, but I would think that the VTF-3 Mk3 would play significantly lower and possibly louder too.

That is what I thought, but how can anyone explain the specs listed for the SuperCube vs the VTF-3 MK3? They claim they go as low as 14 Hz I belive with a 15oo Watt Class D amp.

Sometimes frequency response specs are given as -6db or -10db or something else, tough to say. Also, sometimes peak power is only given as opposed to continuous.

Pete
Just placed my order today.
I went with the HO without the Turbocharger since the Turbo charger will get in the way of my screen.
I will post my impressions when I get it.
Thanks
regards
Enrique

Great to hear Enrique! Let me know what you think of max output vs max extension modes...

One question.
How long does it take to ship the subwoofer?
I placed the order on the 29th (yhst-32170466308816-26724) and the status is still not updated and I have no received any communication from you so far.
Thanks
Enrique

What are the benefits in adding the turbo to the 3.3? I use my subwoofers 95% of the time for movies. I already have a MBM-12. Would I see major improvement if I add the turbos? When you have the turbo installed do you run your subs in Max. Output or Max. Ext.?

Sorry Enrique, I must have missed this question. To ship to Ohio, usually it would take about 3-4 business days.

Bori, the benefit would be deeper extension with less port noise and output compression compared to the port plugged mode. If you like to listen to pipe organ music and other ultra-deep bass effects below 20Hz, then it would be beneficial. In other instances, max output mode is just fine.
