i am thinking about adding a mbm to my ascend 170 speakers. i dont think a low bass sub would be useful as i live in an old apartment with a wood floor and i know it would drive the people below me nuts . i prefer detail in bass rather than low boomy power anyways.
it will be plugged into ciaudio passive control with d-100 monoblocks powering mains and a ciaudio vda 2 as source. it is for a computer setup, nearfield listening.
im not unhappy with the quality of bass im getting ..i just want more detail and a bit of impact..maybe a little more overall without vibrating the floor too much
will it give me the clean n sweet bass detail i crave? i listen to mostly jazz.
thanks
edit...i will want to filter bass out of mains as well?

Well I currently have my fronts with the MBM only and the experience is not very good!!!
The MBM is certainly part of the whole picture so you really need a subwoofer to get the low end. HSU subs aren't boomy at all, believe me.
You will love the sound that they produce. At first I used to think that way, but when I had the VTF-3 with the MBM ohhh my god that sounded awesome!!!
The MBM is a great product it sounds excellent...but please use it with a sub or with mains that can really produce the low end which are very very few.
Yeah filter the 80hz down freqs...
From 20khz-80hz Mains
80hz-50hz MBM
50hz-down Subwoofer

I run my MBM-12 with my mains and my 3.3 Turbo at the end of the couch about 5 feet from the sweet spot. Fantastic bass! I have tried differeent configurations with this combo and running the MBM-12 with the mains gets me the best bass ever.
