Hi all! Great thread. I've been doing a ton of research and still have a few questions. Please help.

1) My HT is right next to my kitchen. When considering sub size, do I need to consider the entire space? IE: My viewing area is 14 x 16 x 9 but the actual room is 31 x 16 x 9.

2) I've been reading mostly about STF 2, STF 3 and VTF 2. I plan to use the sub for both HT and music. Using just the specs (I realize that there are other considerations) Why not go with the STF 2 for $399? For the extra $200 for the STF 3, I don't see any gains of base extension? What effect will the extra 2 inches and 100 watts provide?

3) Would the VTF-3 MK 2 be worth the extra $$$?

4) Flat out opinions... which one would you buy in this price range?

I'm new to all of this so please don't flame if any of this is too basic.

THANKS!!!

I recently purchased an STF-2 for a similar size room, and it provides all the bass I need. My HT room is 19 x 15 x 9 and is open in the back to the kitchen, making it about 40 x 15 x 9 (with a 6' wide opening on the side toward the foyer/dining room). I sit about 14' from the back wall where I have the sub and it can shake the house (my friends jump while watching movies).

I think the STF-3 can to play louder, and the VTF-3 can play lower and/or louder. I have not heard them, so I can not provide an accurate comparison. Whether it's worth the extra $ will depend on how much bass you like. The STF-2 is perfect for me. I spent less then I thought I would need to, and got better sound than I thought I would get.

I bought the STF-2 to replace an older sub that originally cost more than twice as much as the STF-2, and the new STF-2 sounds much better than the older one.

It sounds like our rooms are very similar. I'm not sure what to do. I have the bose AM-15's which I hang 4 of the five from the ceiling and I like the system alot other than NO BASE!!! Almost anything I add will be an improvement for sure.

Anyone else?

One thing to remember, those Bose speakers may not play low enough to properly crossover to a Hsu sub.
