What's with the splurge of Hsu reviews in Secrets? Did somebody suddenly become a advertiser at Secrets? Doesn't look like it.
Also strange is the reviewing of a product at the very end of its lifespan. But he did indicate that Hsu said that the VTF-3R will be updated in Jan 2004 at a reduced price of $799 for piano black and $899 for rosewood finish.
Secrets seems consist of an array of freelance reviewers, so somethings goes to the JJ's living room lab, while others don't.

It appears to me from the pictures in the Secrets review that the space from the driver to the floor is only the depth of the spikes on the sub. On a carpeted floor, it would seem that the bottom of the sub (and therefore the driver) would be practically on the floor. Am I hallucinating?

The spikes appear to be at least 1" in height. Unless you have 1000 lines hand knotted rug that has a plush height of 1", the bass would go right pass it.

I think the concern is that if the spikes are one inch and the carpet is 1/2" then there is only 1/2" clearance for the woofer which has a 16mm xmax. 1/2" is 12.5 mm, so theoretically the woofer could be brushing the carpet.
I suppose in those situations coasters might help a little to keep the subwoofer from going through the carpet, but it will still depress the pad, which can be 1/2".
I have not read any posts where people had problems with this though - maybe the spikes are greater than 1".

Well it looks like the questions about the life of the VTF-3R may have been answered? Looks like it gets the Bash amp. I wonder if it will be before or after the ever invisible Piano Black VTF-3 MK2 thats been coming since October last.
Sasha mentioned about the paint not curing quickly but surely by Feb it should be right?
if the spikes are one inch and the carpet is 1/2" LOL - I keep imagining the driver pounding the carpet flat. Move the subwoofer and you have a scene out of that movie SIGNS with Mel Gibson (the crop markings) - LOL.

If you look closely, you can see that the driver is slightly recessed when resting. Ground clearance will not be an issue really.
