Does the STF-3 have a single sub-in low level input like the STF-2 or both left and right line level inputs like a VTF-3? I can't find a picture of the back of an STF-3. If it has only a single line in, how do you connect the L and R output from a pre-amp (not HT system so no LFE out)?

I guess you want to do bass augmentation with a 2ch system, you could just run speaker cables from your amp into the amp's speaker level in. Either run them in parallel to your main speaker cables or run your main speaker cable from the output of the sub.

Either way, don't use Y connectors backward to combine signal from 2 channels into that single input on the sub (or a combination of Y connectors to split the signal to the amp & sub, and combining the 2 going to the sub into one channel). You will just end up with no sound.

Does the STF-3 have a stereo line input? From the pix of Outlaw sub's amp (the STF-3's cousin), it seem to have only one input:

So the VTF-3 MkII would have a different amp from the STF-3 then? If the input stage is different, can the output capability be changed also? for a bump of 320w(Outlaw's more optimistic spec) to 350w?

No the STF-3 has stereo inputs.

Regarding inputs, on the STF-2 there are only a single sub input and speaker inputs/outputs. I have a stereo amplifier and want to use the STF-2. If I connect the speaker wires from the amp, how does the internal amp handle that signal? I had the understanding earlier from your site (or reviews) that the STF-2 had a low-pass filter. Does it not?

Bottom line: I would like to connect the STF-2 to preamp outlets and do the sub amplifying in the sub. How?

The STF-2 only has a mono low level input, so in that case you would have to use the speaker level in's and out's. Adjust the variable LP filter (30-90Hz @ 24dB) on the STF-2 to suit.

If you really want low level stereo inputs, the VTF-2 has them with a variable LP filter (30-90Hz @ 24dB)

Our product grid now explains which products have the stereo inputs.

http://hsuresearch.com/products/

If the subwoofer has the "Line Level Low Pass for 2- Channel systems", then it will have stereo inputs.

As of January 2004, our only subs that don't have it are the STF-1 and STF-2.
