Hi:

Can I use the Ventriloquist center rear speaker as part of a 7.1 setup, and if so, how do I wire it?

Thank You,

Mark

In a 7.1, aside from the sub, you have 2 front/mains, 2 surrounds and 2 rear surrounds.

Where would you use just one speaker?

That's called a 6.1 configuration. My AVR manual (Denon 4806CI) says that if you wish to use only a single rear surround that it should be wired to the LEFT SR posts.

PS. I don't think it's called a REAR CENTER just a REAR Surround.

Now that I've looked at it a little closer I better understand your question. I think this one will have to answered by someone from Hsu.

The Ventriloquist VT-12 is sold as a 6.1 setup. The rear center channel has different sized (and more; i.e. two sets of) connectors. These connector pairs are wired together in the 6.1 setup. I am hoping to use it as a regular satellite in a 7.1 setup.

Thank you for your replies. I'm pretty sure I need someone from Hsu also.

From looking at the wiring diagram it almost looks like the rear center is wired bi-amped, one from left and one from right. If that's the case you would connect each rear surround output to a rear surround speaker (what you are calling rear center) and jumper the posts on the back of the speaker together. I'm not sure about the impedance in that configuration so you'll need to get that from Hsu.

I'd get a definitive answer from Hsu before wiring it up so you don't damage your amp.

I have an extra speaker like the other satellites. This "rear center" is the only one that is configured differently. As you suggest, I'll wait for an answer from Hsu.

Thanks,
