View Full Version : VTF-2 mk3 matching w/ Mirage Omnisats??

I'm about to buy a home theater system and I think I've decided to go with the Mirage Omnisat FS for fronts, V2's for surrounds, and the V2CC for the center. The review below recommends the Mirage Omni S10, as it blends seamlessly with the V2's.

I'm looking at the $500-$600 range. I have been considering the VTF-2 mk3 instead of the Mirage S10. It is the same price but appears to be a much better sub. I know the S12 is more comparable but can't afford $800 and it seems overpriced. So anyone have an inkling if the VTF 2.3 might have any issues of matching up with the Omnisat system? This will be my first venture into a serious home theater so I'm not exactly knowledgable about what the issues would be.

If it matters, the fronts (FS) are rated at 55Hz-20Khz, surrounds (V2) at 70Hz-20Khz, and center at 70Hz-20Khz. The S10 is rated at 21Hz-120Khz and is 200 watts RMS. From what I could find appears both subs are rated at 83 dB at 20Hz.

If I make sure to use an SPL and set level's correctly would it not matter whether I got the S10 or the VTF 2.3? Would there be any disadvantages to getting the VTF 2.3? Also considering the SVS PB12NSD if that would make a better match for some reason.

Any advice is appreciated!

Hi JR,

The VTF-2 Mk3 should match nicely with your Omnisat system. Note that this subwoofer has an extremely flat response out to 200Hz, so you should have no problems integrating with your speakers.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the quick response. I think I've decided to go with the VTF 2.3. Could you give me an idea of what controls are available on it besides the crossover/slope? Is there a gain, frequency, etc? I haven't been able to find much about this?

Sure JR, there is: rca subwoofer input (for use when controller has a 'Sub Out' connection), rca low level left/right inputs (for use when a controller has an extra 'Pre Out' connection), speaker level inputs (for use when a controller has none of the above), volume knob (should be set between 9 and 10 o'clock for VTF subs, and 11 o'clock for STF subs), phase switch (0 or 180 degrees), bass extension switch ('1 port open' mode, or '2 port open' mode), crossover knob (30-90Hz, low pass only), crossover switch ('Out' if using crossover on controller, 'In' if using built-in crossover on subwoofer amp), and Auto-on switch.
