I have the VTF 3 - MK3 and am having problems getting it to come on. I have it set in Auto mode and will be watching shows that I know have a bass track and the sub will not switch. The only way I can get it to switch on is to scroll through the receivers surround modes until it finally awakes. After it seems to be fine most of the time. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I have tried several things and still nothing. :(

Hi cantzme,
Could you describe to me how your subwoofer is hooked up, and what settings you are using on the back of the subwoofer and through your receiver?
Thanks!

At what volume are you listening? With my STF3 I need to hit a certain volume level for the sub to kick in.

One way around this would be to simply set the subwoofer to 'On' instead of 'Auto-on' when watching TV shows. As an alternative, one could set the volume relatively low on the subwoofer amp (no more than 9 or 10 o'clock), and then increase the subwoofer level through the receiver.

Pete,
I am using the LFE in on the back and have it set to max output. Also the receiver has detected the sub through Audyssey and set it to -10.5 db. My sub volume is set to about 10 or 11 o'clock, I think not sure as I am at work and not able to check this. As for the other settings I usually use a wide range of volumes watching diffrent programs. I even tried turning it way up a couple of times and still the sub did not come on....

Do as Peter suggested. This is confirmed by othre's on here. Set you sub to about 9 - 10 and increase the level of output from your receiver. Start with - 5 dB and work from there.
Do you have an SPL meter? Don't just rely on Audessy.
Try that and report back.

I have noticed this with my new 3.3. It seems that the "auto" mode is not very sensitive and requires more volume than my Mirage S12 did to kick it on. I have the sub set at about 9:30 on the back and around -2db on the SW trim. Would a "Y" adapter help with this? Has anyone tried it?
Thanks

Gov, I recommend reducing the volume on the VTF amp a little bit (to maybe 9 o'clock), and then adjusting the subwoofer channel upwards a little bit. The auto-on should work better that way. Note that it is actually quite ok to leave the subwoofer in the 'On' position all the time too. It really doesn't end up drawing more power than the 'Auto' position.
Sincerely,

Thanks Pete! And by leaving it on all the time it doesn't jepradize the life of the amp?
