I am extremely intrigued by what I have read of the Ventriloquist sat system.

What is bothering me is the idea of spending more on the sub than the other 6 speakers combined.

Does this really make sense. Would it make more sense to couple this set with a more economical sub?

When you compare the cost of other 6.1 sets, is the sub typically worth more than the rest of the speakers?

you could purchase the ventriloquist at CompUSA and order the STF1 from here. that way you wouldn't feel bad. At these prices there is no other option for an accurate sub.

Yes, subs ARE more expensive because they are a much larger speaker with much more materials (larger driver, larger cabinet, extra bracing, heavier, more expensive to ship). In fact, they are typically MUCH more expensive; Hsu subs are truly a bargain. Shop around, but make sure you are looking at real subs and not just boxs advertised to be subs. The best strategy IMO is to save your money until you can afford the sub that you want; don't try to scrimp: waiting is less unpleasant in the lon run than buying something cheaper and being ultimately dissatisfied.
