I am stuck between buying a vtf2-mk3 and a svs PB12-NSD. What would be the benefits of taking the Hsu? Does anyone have any experience with these that could shoot some input?

Hi comeback,

We are all probably biased to some extent here :) But even so, it's a bit apples to oranges comparison. The VTF-2 Mk3 is probably at least ~20% less expensive in terms of shipped cost, and also has a significantly smaller cabinet too in terms of width and depth. The VTF subs have variable tuning so that one can choose their tradeoff of maximum output and punch, or maximum extension. The -2 MK3 also does not have a rolled off deep bass response, but rather is incredibly flat: +/- 0.5db from 16-200Hz in extended bass mode!

Sincerely,

heh I understand that people here will back up Dr. Hsu's products, and I am definately taking into account the price difference. Just looking for input on the matter.

Sure, I know exactly what you mean. The VTF-2 MK3 is one subwoofer that can definitely hold it's own very well at this price point in terms of performance and features, and I think almost all -2 MK3 owners have no regrets too. Sometimes even I am amazed at this level of performance for $499, considering that it used to cost $700-$850 just a few years ago to obtain this type of performance and feature set.

Just out of curiosity. What happens when you take a sub listed for large rooms, and put it in a room according to the list a small room?:D

Good question. I generally don't believe there is anything wrong in taking a relatively large and powerful sub and using it in a relatively small room. Typically one will still benefit from deeper extension, higher output, and lower distortion compared to a lower cost smaller subwoofer.

comeback,

I have studied the 2 choices hard for the last couple of weeks. I decided on the HSU for several reasons, mainly reviews but ultimately the customer service.

I suspect I am driving the HSU customer service people nuts with all my questions, follow up questions but they have been top notch in every case. Not only pre-sale but post-sale as well.

Lastnight I was thinking about my new sub 3 3 and called customer service 30 minutes past closing, guess what ? Someone answered on the second ring and asked how they could help.

Anyone that cares this much about customer service has to make a great product.

SVS was OK when I would call them, took my name and called me back but I senced a very hurried person on the other end. I appreciate the calm confidence cence I get from HSU.

Ordered my 3 3 yesterday and was shipped yesterday. FEDEX expects to deliver on Thursday and I am like a kid waiting for Christmas. I have never had a really good sub, shopped hard for a $450 price range, built spreadsheet and shopped hard.

I kept coming back to 2 3 but I decided on the 3 3, my room is 4300 cubic feet with a large opening on one end. I decided this time to make my first sub purchase the best I could afford.

I may have to bring my lunch to work for a while and I am expecting it to be worth it.

You have made the right choice. I felt the same way you do when I ordered my first sub from HSU.

Enjoy, Bill:) :) :)

Dang bsoko, what size room are you feeding all that bass ?

6000 cubic feet with 2 large openings to the other parts of the house. There is no way to pressurize the room, but if I could do this in a small room I would probably blow my ear drums out. Check out this thread that is running on AVS about the Hsu MBM: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=799936. And hedre is another one about the MBM-12: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1008756. People are starting to really get on the band wagon with using MBM's in the HT enviroment.

comeback,
I have had an experiance similar to Tracy.
I just ordered my VTF-3 HO yestarday...It shipped out in 3 hours after placing my order.
I was also considering the SVS PB12-Plus/2.

I spoke with Pete twice and also called SVS and spoke to sales there to get some pre-sales advice. Pete was super helpful and chatted with me about the details of my install and "convinced" me (without any pressure) that I was making a great choice in subs. Not to knock SVS, but like Tracy, I didn't have the same experiance with them, it just wasn't the same level of personalized service that I got from HSU.

I chose the HSU over the SVS due to the better cust service, the ability to add an MBM and Turbo in the future, the great help I go from Pete, and the subs better criagsub rating, and it was $200 cheaper.

I will recieve my sub on Monday...so if you're waiting around I'd be happy to give you my impression of it.

Also, for those folks talking small rooms with large sub....I got the HO for a room that is roughly 14.5x16x8 with two openings. When I initially talked to Pete e suggested two lower models, but I wanted loud clean bass to really pressurize the room, and wanted to make a long term investment in a versatile sub. I will give you all my reactons of a "large room" sub in a smaller space.

Thanks Again HSU!!!
